2. It will do one of two things to your levels. It will either be kinda/sorta but not really challenging when attempted first off, and give you some decent upgrades, but will make the rest of the sidequests easy. Or it will do jack crap. It however does have JUST enough TP availible to fully max out every character in one game, provided you do it before the black omen, which will probably do it for you if you choose to skip it.
3. Its not half as good as the other, way more fun new optional dungeon.
It's a lot like a longer version of the first optinal dungeon in FF IV advance, only that one was short. It fills in some equipment holes and gives you some levels you may or may not want.

So, what do I have to do for the new ending? Complete the Lost Sanctum side quests?
Because if so, that's the only way I'll consider seeing this through. You all weren't kidding.
I already finished the three Dimensional Vortexes.
Yo travel back in Lucca's Past to rescue her mother
I can't enter the password correctly - I mean, when "Please enter password" appears, do I enter it right away, do I press a to confirm the textbox first, am I too slow or what ?!
man, I was never able to enter it correctly. I even remember spending like, hours, reloading it and trying again.

Final final ending get.
Crono/Magus/Lucca at mid 50s. Dream Devourer got slaughtered.
As for the new ending itself... O_o
Guardia gets destroyed in 1005 AD? News to me...
I'm so replaying Chrono Cross once I finish Shadow Hearts 3.

I should clarify- playing Chrono Trigger doesn't help you understand Chrono Cross either. Nothing helps you understand Chrono Cross. Once you put time travel and alternate dimensions in the same place all bets are off.
You could but that also means you aren't playing Chrono Trigger. And not playing Chrono Trigger would be a terrible thing
I don't have anything to play it on.

You poor bastard.
I'd say you can go ahead and play Chrono Cross as a standalone with the caveat that its very much a "Love-it-or-hate-it" sort of game. The soundtrack is rapturous either way.
Now that I think about it, you can get through Almost all of Disc 1 of Chrono Cross without playing CT. You'll be hopelessly lost by the time disc 2 rolls around, though.

Then go buy a DS.
He could play CT on the PS1

If you can play CC you can also get the PS1 version of CT for the PS1 as well. Both are available new on Amazon. Without a DS you're missing out on a lot more than CT, though...
Also, I just bought CC on Amazon the other day. I haven't played it before, and I hadn't really wanted to, but for some reason I want to give it a shot now.
That's the only PSX version (in the US?), so yeah. Again, the only problem is rather annoying load times. If you're prepared to deal with that then by all means go for it.

By 'annoying load times' you mean 'bring a novel.'
If it was only on changing locations that'd be one thing.
But...
> Press Triangle!
---Veeet! Whirrrrrrrrr---

Every time! Every time!
But this here is the kicker -- Chrono Trigger is friggin' worth it. I beat it twice on the SNES, once on the PS1 and have gotten nearly every ending on the DS. No regrets.
I got all the endings on the PSX, and a memory card with a save before each one. Just enough room on one, and man alive were PSX memory cards cheap back when that game came out. I got a three pack for $5.
DS version pretty much makes it useless. No loads, better music, better translation, same okish anime FMV.

The only FMV I liked was Chrono facing off against Lavos at the Underwater Palace.
Nope! I had to buy two off Amazon marketplace before I got one that worked.
FWIW, I have a PS2 - if you turn on "fast" mode for PS1 games it does improve the load times a little. But yeah, CT on the PS is not an optimal gaming experience.
That or they're assholes of the most arse and holy and they wank over such actions rather than, you know, releaseing RE: Chain of Memories in PAL already.

I didn't do it until after finishing the game with a party in the 50's. I went through there like a hot knife through butter.
1. You go up that mountain so, so, so many times.

Maybe use the bucket at the end of time?

Of course, I did it way sub-optimally (2 New Game+'s). Ah well.
Now the problem is the items and the bestiary. Ugh.
(I'm usually not a completionist, but I'm making an exception just for CT.)
I recall Black Omen having some good lvling stuff, though I think the new dungeon may have better areas. Not too sure actually.

And Harle is just plain awesome.

It's a wonderful sequel.
When the story gets good, it hits the ground running.
Then again, I do own all three US releases of the game. Perhaps I'm just a fanboy.
It's just not a very good option

What I'm saying is- go play some Chrono Trigger.

It even had Janus.
I really like the one with Frog and the Mountain, the aforementioned Ocean Palace, and the ROBO repair vid.
