Music recommendations, please.

I've been in this rut recently where I've kind of been listening to the same stuff over and over again. Which is fine, because I like it, but I'm also in the mood for something new (that can preferably be obtained via iTunes). As far as genre tastes are concerned, I'm open to pretty much anything, but tend to lead towards rock and alternative.

Here's some stuff I've been listening to and thoroughly enjoying recently:

    I second the Tom Waits recommendation. Man, who doesn't like Tom Waits? Fools, that's who.

    You might also like something like the New Pornographers (or their sister groups Destroyer or Immaculate Machine); maybe something like OK GO or Wilco?

    If you are down for some hip hop check out Aesop Rock. All His albums are great but the album Float is a good place to start. Bazooka Tooth is my next favorite after flaot. His style sort of reminds me more of poetry and its nothing like the main stream hip hop that you would hear on the radio or something.

    be sure to explore all of ted leo's catalogue, it's all golden

    also chisel, his former band

    try out the mountain goats (specifically tallahassee or the sunset tree) or the hold steady (boys and girls in america) if you haven't heard them already

    Anyone who likes Dragonforce for the guitar work should check out Guns 'n' Roses. It's not as fast, but Slash is a fucking master.

    Most of his songs are free to download, you can listen to all of them on his site. Most of them are funny, like Re: Your Brains (co-worker becomes a zombie), Code Monkey (life of a software engineer), etc. Also, he's playing at PAX this year! boo ya.

    I second Aesop Rock, he is most amazing. Labor Days and Float are his two most accessible albums in my opinion.

    Other rap stuffs include Immortal Technique, Sage Francis, DJ Shadow, Cannibal Ox, Blackalicious, Cypress Hill, and Kool Keith. Nas' first album, Illmatic, is also amazing.

    In general, The Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Belle and Sebastien, David Bowie, and The Clash just to name a few.

    Get the Babylon Springs EP by the Mountain Goats on iTunes. $4, so it isn't a huge investment, and man is the music ever awesome.

    Metric, a Canadian band is pretty good.
    The Killers new album is pretty cool. I only recently saw them on an award show and liked them, checked their album out and it was pretty good.

    I, personally, also like the new Of Montreal album a LOT although it doesn't exactly go with what you put (although it could).

    Amusingly enough, several of his songs have been made into machima music videos using WoW and are available on Youtube. Creepy doll is just awesome.

    OP: I'll echo the pandora votes. That webpage is great for finding new music.

    Wow, I had to reply just because it's so rare that I see someone else who enjoys The Delgados!

    Now, if you like The Delgados, I really strongly recommend you check out Placebo, a lot of their songs give me the same feeling. Also, if you're just going to check out, say, one song or so to hear a sample of the band -- for Placebo, I really recommend trying "Running Up That Hill" -- just because I'm in love with the song right now.

    I don't know about that man, they are totally different in my opinion. And thats what I like about the Flaming Lips. There are classics on both albums, and yes I agree that Yoshimi might be a bit campier (and funkier) than TSB, but it's still so totally different.

    Bah... I'm messing up trying to edit my last post here, so I'll just make a new one.

    Several folks on PA suggested Godspeed You Black Emperor (as well as Sigur Ros), so I ended up getting 2 of their discs over the holidays. It's not for everyone, but I think their music is pretty amazing.
