so this fall I'll be attending the Herron School of Art and Design for my first year in big bad college! I'm excited and ready to move out and go learn how to art stuff
you may think it's a little early for a [FRESHMEN] thread but I don't care because it turns out that I'll receive enough money in scholarships and grants to completely pay for my tuition, books and apartment rent! for the entire year! and most of it renewable! with money to spare, even.
and just as a kicker, today in the mail I got a letter from Herron saying my portfolio won their Portfolio Scholarship, and that I would receive $1,750 for the year because it was so rad
so SE++ tell me how much college sucks or how my youthful idealism will be raped anally or other incoming freshmen what up
or just celebrate my current good fortunes with me

I'll be going to community college next year via my high school's full-time dual enrollment program
hopefully my courses will not include any that require me to wake up before 7

we have USG elections coming up, the USG that never ends up doing anything. this girl came up all telling me to vote, i replied that my major concern is how shiny our building is and if that will change under new leadership. she didn't get the hint.

Going to stay with my grandparents since the school is ten minutes from their house
Also going to work in their restaurant for some money under the table
i find myself infuriated that i had to get a classical liberal arts education

I'll be going for just a degree in general fine arts, focus in illustration
if I can get my teaching license while I'm doing it that'd be super

Dual Enrollment and AP credit are the best things. All those basic level courses everyone takes when they start college for their pre-professional that are taught by the crappy profs? Yeah, you dont have to take them or pay for them.
well, yeah, it's stupid if you get a stupid degree
But it was totally fun for me. I did about 10 operas there, did a lot of solo work in the regular choirs, composed some pieces that I am proud of, and made some connections which helped launch my actual career in opera.
Ate a ton of Panda Express while I was there. The line was always really long so they never had any food sitting out for more than 10 minutes before it was replaced with fresh stuff, so it is different than the stuff I found at other malls. Probably spent more on that food than you earned in scholarships. The people working there knew me so well that they wouldn't even have to ask what I wanted to order. Pile on those chilis and I was happy

my school forced everyone to take a lot of general education courses, lots of liberal arts
majority of CS/EGR students still couldn't function in society
moving is a big part of it
the school I'm transferring to is a few hours away, my current school is just in my hometown
I spent my senior year of high school at college anyway, so it was never like Woo!
my mom being the associate dean of my college was a drag too
It is basically my goal to get accepted to a lot of colleges far away from my home.
I don't want to be like my cousin, who drives home every few weekends.

responding to faricrazy, i have no problem functioning in the real world because i'm an actual human being
i read, write, listen to music, converse regularly and socialize just fine
i'd have been much happier if my post secondary education was focused on my field choice
especially when i'm paying for it
gettin' into an apartment of my own (ignoring the two dudes that will be living with me)
