[MISC] Haddy dappy fun thread of never-ending positive PAX-related thoughts

As we all know, PAX is a utopia, a cornucopia of unbridled happiness.

No inconvenience will arise amongst anyone who attends a convention composed of 85,000 people and god damnthe man who entertains such impure thoughts.

Next year I'll sit at all the demos for two hours if I feel like it.

Sounds like you're going to be someone's bad experience this time.

I was standing in line to play Rock Band 2. Some guy tried to tell me a Knock Knock joke. He said, "Knock knock", so I said, "Who's there?" But then he got really quiet. Now I'll never find out who was there. That guy was a big jerk.

I spent a few minutes trying to think of something, but I really can't think of an experience that I would truly consider "bad". I played against a dick who was snaking in Mario Kart DS, but that's just a part of the game. To be honest it doesn't sound like your experiences were that bad either. Is it really necessary to create a thread dedicated to such a negative topic?

    Met Wil Wheton.
Experienced the best Gaming Expo on the planet.
    Had Bawls.
    Went to Pre-PAX dinner.
    Had cookies.
    Played assassins.
    Played Patient Zero.
    Played tons of games.
Met the guys from Rooster Teeth.
Got a characture from Luke McKay. (One of the best things ever)
    Got a fruit fucker t-shirt.
    Got RvB t-shirts.
Booked my flight for 2009 in January cause I can't wait to go again.

I could go on and on.

Negative PAX experience? Well I got on this thread on this one forum and it was full of poo poo talk about how terrible their experience was.

All sarcasm aside, even what little negativity I had (and I mean I would have to nitpick), it was somehow made up for in a hojillion gallons of awesomeness.

I had to stand in a line with a guy with a faint Russian accent, who generally seemed pretty cool, but was a McCain supporter, and we had a friendly debate about politics. Then we played Left 4 Dead.

    Worst Convention... Ever.

With so many people attending PAX, we can't ALL be cool you know. There's bound to be at least two bad apples.

I don't think I've had a bad experience at PAX, except for my epic fail at trying to find other ladies to come to my hotel party. :| Oh well, there's always this year.

Saturday night at two in the morning last year I threw a chair at my friends.

To be fair, I forgot my anti-anxiety medication at home and I'm hypersensitive to large crowds of people, and it wasn't really anyone at PAX's fault, more that I'm messed up in the head.

So no, not really, PAX is one of those rare conventions where people are generally nice. Frightening.

Oh, actually, at PAX '07 or '08, at the Front concert, there was a ball being bumped around up front, and according to my friend who was in the crush up front, some greasy scene looking type attempted to grab and pop the ball.

Other than, I dunno. This convention doesn't really draw the slavering fanboy type, and if they do show up, they generally keep to themselves, from the fear of being stared at ruthlessly.

I remember in PAX 07 waiting for the DDR machine closest to the BYOC. And when it got to be my turn, I was by myself and offered to someone behind me to dance with me if they wanted..Then two guys behind me took both dance pads and left me standing there too speechless to know what to do. I was pretty pissed.

EDIT: And PAX 08 I was annoyed with the ditzy chicks running the Patriot raffle...The guy who did the NVIDIA raffle in 06 was way more awesome.

I only had 1 bad experience.

I was stopping by the ubisoft booth (first mistake) and someone approached me, I believe it was one of the fragdolls. Anyhow she wanted me to take a ticket for their contest. I knew I wouldn't be present and I really didn't need a 1tb drive, so I said "no, its ok" Then she went on about how a terabyte was a THOUSAND gigabytes and became all bitchy when I was trying to be polite and decline.

She might of been frazzled with the leering eye of all the guys at pax, but seriously? Its a dumb raffle.

Why do people have to be dicks at pax? I thought there was a "don't be a dick" policy.

Seriously, though, bad things and bad people do occur at conventions this size. They're probably about .05% of the whole, but I experienced some incidents that threatened to crush my PAX spirit a couple times. Especially in '07 when I was fairly new and didn't know a lot of people.

Couldn't we turn this thread into a more positive one and maybe discuss how people should deal with those negative incidents? And maybe some constructive (warnings) comments about their behavior and how not to be a dick?

Sorry to sound all high-school-counselor, but seriously, if you're passive-aggressive and don't say anything (nicely, no fighting you youngins!) to the jerks, they're just going to keep being jerks and ruin someone else's time too. Or maybe they'll do it anyway....

...also it is possible that it's too early in the morning and I haven't redeveloped my jaded-ness yet today...

I definitely don't think I had a bad experience personally, it was a great time!

Heh, there was a guy that was hanging out with me on Sunday (I think it was) and he played a practical joke on me, he had snagged my hat... and I was looking for it, and he finally pulled it out of his bag. =) I forget his screenname now (ack! Sorry! =( ), but he's on the boards! He was a funny guy and didn't mean any harm by it, but I remember I was pissed at him for like 5 seconds. =) (My gullibility is a sensitive subject for me, apparently ;) )

Last year I went onstage to play that Raving Rabids demo.
The guy on my left didn't move at all, but the guy on my right kept inching towards me and wound up smacking me in the face with his Wii-mote cord once, and nearly hit me with the whole controller a few times.

I got a little grumpy and told him to back off, but he just gave me a weird look and kept doing it anyway.
Since the guy on the other side of me didn't move a single inch there was no where for me to go to, so I just stopped, stepped out of the way, and stood there watching them finish.

Then the woman running the booth told me in a cutesy little voice "wow, you got to get a little more active than that to play, that was a good try though! good job!"
    WTF? o_O
Lady just saw me get hit in the face and just acted like a was a little kid that couldn't keep up.
    Grrr....

She made me almost as angry as Mr Whacky-Wiimote.
    Oh well... :?

The game itself was pretty fun though.

Man I was just hanging out and one day all these crazy fucking people came outta no where and took over downtown. They kept yelling shit like "pwnd!" and "your mom!" They had these weird huge cell phones with stickers all over them that they kept mashing buttons really hard on to text to eachother? Then someone yelled "all hail ball" and I knew a cult had moved in.

It was really confusing and scary.

I was a bit scared about coming to PAX with LewieP, and now I'm feeling really sad I'm not coming again this year. I met lots of amazing people who were all young enough to be my kids and who made me feel very welcome and good about being there. I'm planning to go to Boston PAX, though, atm on my own, but I'll have to see who I can drag with me.

Pax-ers being horrid? no, you didn't go to the same thing as I did.

Well when I was having a Crysis Warhead being demoed to me I had this girl behind me who wanted to rip my head from my shoulders as I had taken her place. It was part of a media tour of EA's booth and we all got shoved in front of people all the time to get our coverage done. Didn't go down so well with many attendees and I can see why. Same problem happened with Dead Space booth come to think of it.

If anything the above was self inflicted, so no sympathies please! Other than that I can't think of a single bad thing from PAX last year. Oh wait yes I can. IT ENDED :(

Agreed. I went to my room, showered, used Anti-perspirant (deodorant just helps with smell not stop sweating), and I did not freaking smell. It is so easy why can't people just have basic hygiene skills in this modern era. Not like you have an excuse to smell like a goat, when the hell were you last even around a goat?

BTW I don't smell ever. When odor shows up at my door I just kick its ass. 8-)
