Is it the Ratchet and Clank commercials that have real people using those crazy weapons? Those are really well done and highly entertaining. My favorite set of ads, by far.
Indeed, I agree. Look at every single other trailer epic has ever done. This was a really nice departure from their standard 'zomg explosions and loud music!' and I enjoyed the freshness that alone brought.
i still don't like the ad though. makes the game look great, the song is awesome, like i said, but i just feel thematically it's a fucking joke.

I was never a big fan of the Gears trailer myself. I thought it was nice looking and cool that they did it all in the engine of the game itself (as opposed to other games that have like real actors fighting in WWII and claim it's actual gameplay graphics) but I always saw people going crazy over how well done the trailer was and stuff when it was just that song with a few seemingly random scenes.
Plus the game itself didn't really carry the same "destroyed beauty" theme as the commercial.

Love the Gears ad, but a lot of that is just recognizing an awesome song. I would love to see a gears spinoff/expansion that focuses more on exploration and caution that has the 'vibe' of that commercial. The destroyed beauty theme is a powerful one, and it fits that universe greatly. The game itself was so hectic you didn't get to see the environment as much as I would like. As my wife says when I play it "I could never play that game, everytime you play it all I can do is watch the little details in the environment"
I found the advertising for Lost Planet very interesting. At least here in orlando they heavily targeted movie theaters. there were movie posters all over and the trailer ran pretty often before action movies. that theatrical trailer was pretty darn nice looking. Really impressed a lot of onlookers, but I don't think it was done ingame, was it? If I had to guess I would say ingame models with external rendering mostly to solidify the framerate.

That Super Smash Bros 64 ad is sublime. They never broadcast it here in the UK, but fortunately I was living in LA at the time and I saw it plenty of times. Yay me.

Deluxe ad, with the couple pulling into the Drive-Thru to find the speaker is shouting Mario-related abuse at them, and it turns out that the guy at the window is playing his Game Boy Color? The gears of war commercial is the single greatest video game commercial ever made. Ive seen people in cinemas just blown away by it, sitting there in silent awe of how astounding it makes the game look.
I know multiple people who went out, bought a 360 and the game based on that trailer alone. Ive seen people talk about it at work, sales of Mad World went up. Everything about that commercial is beautiful.
