The PA:AC Deviant Art Group

***If you want to be in the group and you are a Regular to semi-regular poster, Please PM me your user Name!***
My hope is to get everyone in here with 1-2 works in the featured gallery and then a slightly extended amount in the sub galleries. Basically a nice grab bag representation of the forum. I recommend putting your favorite or most popular deviation into featured

Resources!
The group has a great ability to have a collective of favorites. Since we often refer people to DA for references, We can save people from having to start their search from scratch. With that goal in mind, I ask that people (like me) who will collect kinda useful things to use their better judgment, and only add good to stellar stuff to the favorites.

-Note: Human anatomy portions are most likely NSFW, but if you are logged out of DA, these works are automatically covered with a warning.
Human Anatomy/Photo Refs
-Male Poses
-Male Portraits
-Female Poses
-Female Portraits
-Hands and Feet
-Skulls and Skeletons

Animal Anatomy/ Photo Refs
-Felines
-Canines
-Skulls and Skeletons

Downloadable Resources

-Textures
-Photoshop Stuff
-Patterns and Stencils

Logos!
Submitting something to a group will put a big ol PA-Artist corner next to the deviation and your name. The normal one is the one that will appear next to your name on DA. Here are the logos, if you'd like to put them in your signature. If you'd Like to modify them, or add the logo to your own sig, download the PS template.

Help!

>>To get in the group:
1- Check to see if I sent you an invite on your DA account.
2- If you didn't get an invite PM me your DA account name, and I'll send you an invite.
3- In your message center there should be an invite, Click YES:

>>to submit to the gallery
1- click gallery

2-Click a subcategory and then click submit to folder on the top right.

Actually yeah, now that I look at it, morphing the circle behind the original PA logo to become a pallet is a pretty clever idea. I like it, but I do think it needs some touching up.

But from a design aspect putting a painters palette on this thing would be just aces.

Has anyone ever had any problems with DeviantArt's policy on art property or whatever? I'm pretty sure DA wouldn't steal our art, I'm just wondering if anyone had bothered to interpret their policy. Thanks in advance for putting me at ease.

We talked about it in the chat thread a bit, DA claims the right to display your art on the site (so you can have a gallery) and then legally excuses themselves from having to protect you should any random internet user choose to steal your art (basically, they wont sick their lawyers on every lowlife, the internets a wasteland). I personally have never heard of or seen DA use someones art without their permission, and cant really see why they would as that would destroy the websites credibility.

I understand people being worried about it. but I think the only people who need to concern themselves about privacy on DA are people doing popular generic anime, posting photos at a size thats large enough to want to manipulate it, and art that can easily be used as tattoos or teeshirts. Even then, issues are with random people and not DA itself, and you run a bit of a risk with gaining more eyes on your work.

Anyways, I guess the painter palette one is the fave, so after finals I'll work with that a bit.

DMAC has had people take some of his drawings and claim them as their own in their DA pages, but DA is pretty cool about putting a stop to that if you report them. If you post anything on the internet, it's liable to get stolen or used without permission. Your best defense of this would be to only post screen resolution works publically.

Thanks guys. I wasn't worried about lowlifes stealing my art so much as I was worried about DA claiming rights to the art cause it's on their site or whatever. I heard MySpace had some weird policy about this, but I never bothered looking into it.

I'll set up an account this week.

As Iruka said, we had a small discussion on this in the Chat thread a bit ago. The exact portion of their EULA is this:
    16. Copyright in Your Content

deviantART does not claim ownership rights in Your Content. For the sole purpose of enabling us to make your Content available through the Service, you grant to deviantART a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, re-format, store, prepare derivative works based on, and publicly display and perform Your Content. Please note that when you upload Content, third parties will be able to copy, distribute and display your Content using readily available tools on their computers for this purpose although other than by linking to your Content on deviantART any use by a third party of your Content could violate paragraph 4 of these Terms and Conditions unless the third party receives permission from you by license.

While the portion in yellow has always been my main concern--mostly because of how dubious the wording is--the gist of it keeps them in the legal clear in regards to running a website that hosts other people's artwork. Most of the what's being described directly relates to how images are populated (and propagated) on their website.

The only one that's always left me scratching my head a little is "prepare derivative works based on" because I can't, off the top of my head, think of what that really means in terms of the day-to-day running of the site.

The stuff in Silver is your basic "Don't blame us for what shitheads on the internet will do." Or, as has been pointed out, anytime you upload anything to the internet, you run the risk of some shitheal stealing it. Or to put it another way...

It's standard lawyer speak that lets them display your work in your gallery. I think even the PA forums show it when you sign up.

I'm guessing that covers thumbnails, I think if you do emoticons DA will occasionally add them to the general thing, and prints, because i don't think there is a seperate agreement when you set up a print account (may be wrong about that). They do, technically have the right to print your work for promotional use, Ive never actually seen DA publish anything though.

Yeah, my school has a similar agreement and it's mostly utilized for what you just said--promotional material. I think you are absolutely right, though, when you say it'd be their death knell if they ever decided wanton abuse of that policy was the way to go.

I still say they should add the "Contribute Existing Deviation" button to the front page of the group. That is the only really confusing part of the whole process, since its hidden in a really awkward place.

Yeah, everyone should totally sign up for this. My submissions inbox on DA has been flooded with epic awesomeness over the past couple days.

I made it all transparent just to remember that Gifs cant to soft edges, so I guess I have to make it vector or go over it with the pencil tool for this to work right (I dont do vectors sooooooo) but I think it came out okay?
