For many years, chiptune musicians from lands far and wide have gathered at the gates outside of PAX. Using portable gaming consoles, these lo-tek buskers would blast their hand-crafted 8-bit tunes onto the streets of Seattle time and time again. Slowly but surely, the humble 8-bit minstrels won the hearts of PAX attendees, who danced and cheered as bleeps and bloops filled the Autumn air.

Now, charmed by their talent and persistence, the beneficent rulers of PAX have opened their doors to these plucky lo-fi performers, and granted them a special chiptune music showcase to take place this year inside the PAX JamSpace! Come indulge your ear drums and pump your fists to the sounds of Fighter X, Spamtron, Seanbad, Knife City and Zen Albatross at the first-ever PAX Prime Chiptune Music Showcase !

♡‿♡KNIFE CITY♡‿♡

Knife City is the latest incarnation of Luke Silas' lifetime fascination with both making music and classic video games. He uses a pair of Game Boys to produce music meant for dancing. He also plays drums for the NYC chip-rock band Anamanaguchi, who are returning to perform for their third year at PAX's main concerts.

♡‿♡ZEN ALBATROSS♡‿♡

Zen Albatross is a rare musician/journalist hybrid from Brooklyn, NY that uses homebrew software and ancient spirit magicks to craft introspective elegies and infectious dance beats for the Nintendo Game Boy. When he's not playing gigs or stuck on a New York City subway train, he writes articles about technology, music and videogame culture for Vice Magazine's nerd news portal, Motherboard.

I'm very glad I witnessed the special street corner concerts the last few years. It was special.

Glad they're moving inside, though. They really belong inside the walls of our magical fortress.

This is going on at the same time as the Super Street Fighter 4 tournament. I have a very difficult decision to make.

Oh snap, Zen Albatross! I caught you at the New Year's Eve concerts this past MAGfest, where you rocked the fuck out of that crowd. I cannot communicate in words how pleased I am to learn that you'll be part of the Chiptune Showcase this PAX.

I'm going to miss the outdoorsy, jerry rigged feeling of the past two years, but not too much. I'll be there. If anything, I'll at least make some connections with the chip scene in my new home

While I really enjoyed listening to the music outdoors last year, I am really excited that you guys are sanctioned now. This is the first thing I've decided I will definitely be attending =)

    !!! IMPORTANT !!!

My compatriots and I have just looked at the official PAX program guide (the physical one), and it has our event listed as occurring from 5 - 8 PM.

    THIS IS FALSE

The show is still planned for 1 PM - 4 PM PST on Saturday the 4th of September, Two Thousand and Ten. Do not panic. Do not attempt to activate your overhead floatation device. Breathe deeply, arrive promptly and rock out.

Even with the faulty scheduling, there was a great turn out. Knife City and Fighter X supremely tore the shit out of the place, but everyone was amazing to see. This was one of the highlights of PAX for me.

    Thanks to everyone for coming!

We had tons of fun playing for y'all and we'll very likely be back for PAX East, and for PAX Prime next year.
