So, I bought a Wii. Let's discuss what I should buy next.

So on Saturday, I bought a Wii. I'm excited. This is my first new console since the Dreamcast back in 2000. I swore up and down for a long time that I was going to be portable only, with my DS and PSP, but the opportunity arose so I picked one up.

newsetupjp4.jpg

I also bought the pictured Samsung TV. I did not have a TV in my room prior as I used a VGA monitor with my Dreamcast. Being that the Samsung TV has VGA I'll still be able to use it, which will be nice. It's a model LN-T1954H for those who are curious. I didn't mean to have it intentionally have it match the Wii but the fact that it ended up that way was awesome.

I'm still weighing the options of connecting my NES, SNES, and N64to said television. I need to pick up a SNES/N64 S-video cable before I do, however. Also when I plugged my NES into the TV with some standard composite cables /2 y-adapter for audio I got a horrible screeching sound from the audio, so I think I'll need to get a new cable for it as well. Or at least, I hope the TV doesn't have a borked connection.

Along with it I purchased the Monster Component cables ($33), and a Wii Points card ($17). I was trying to stay as inexpensive as possible being that I was buying a TV as well, so I didn't purchase any other accessories or games.

Yesterday I bought a platinum Gamecube controller so I could play the copy of The Wind Waker that Nintendo sent me so long ago for doing their online retail training. Luckily they had also sent me a memory card so I didn't need to purchase one of those. While at Circuit City I also purchased Super Mario Sunshine, which I had played a little bit of but not owning a Gamecube I couldn't fully appreciate.

So thus far I have a Wii with 6 games total, 3 Gamecube games, 2 VC games, and Wii Sports. What should I buy next? What do you reccomend?

I pretty much purchased the Wii in preparation of Super Mario Galaxy. Super Smash Bros is a definite buy as well, but Galaxy is a system seller.

In addition, what accessories do you use with your Wii? I'm considering picking up the Retro NES & SNES adapters so I can use those controllers with the VC games:
wiiretroport1_med.jpgwiisuperretroport1_med.jpg

So hey, let's talk Wii. What are you looking forward to?

Also, post your Wii code so I can actually get some Miis in my plaza.

Well, you already have Metriod. So um...I've got nothing helpful.

    Wait, that says preview.

    GET METRIOD PRIME 3.

Rent Excite Truck. If you don't have it for the DS, get Trauma Center. RE4 and Super Paper Mario are good. I also recommend picking up all of those GC games you missed.

Warioware. Just do it, already. Guaranteed fun at parties.

Excite Truck is fun, though the music makes me want to jam sharpened pencils in my ears.

    Zelda's fantastic.

I hear Mario Strikers is good for online multiplayer.

    And Metroid was damn nice.

I already own RE4 for the GC (It was something I actually bought before the Wii came out because I wanted to play it whenever I ended up getting a Wii, and I decided to pick up a copy while I could still find one. If I only knew.)

Rather than getting adapters for old systems, I recommend picking up the Classic Controller for VC gaming. It's one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever used, although admittedly I haven't played any N64 games on it. For SNES games, it's a godsend. For NES games it's also very nice, but so is the Wiimote by itself on its side.

Welcome to a brave new world. :) I'd start by grabbing a Classic Controller -- last I checked, those retro adapters are going to cost you far more than the $20 CC, and between the CC and the Gamecube controller you should have all your VC needs taken care of.

On the Wii end, it really depends on your game preferences. I wholly suggest Trauma Center Wii; it's an expanded remake of the DS version but the controls are really sublime and instead of the bullshit Final Sin missions you have a really expanded final chapter, plus a handful of new surgeries that really highlight Wii controls well. If you liked the Wario Ware games, Smooth Moves is also an instabuy. I'd also say MP3 and Mario Strikers are both must-haves, and Excite Truck is a dark-horse favorite because it's amazingly fun.

Seriously. Find all of the heavy metal and hard rock you can find. Blasting off of a ramp and hitting the turbo boost so flames shoot out of your tailpipe as you fly miles in the air while a guitar solo wails in the background ... that shit just doesn't ever get old. <3

can't add much to what people already said. Raving Rabbids is pretty hilarious, but there's just too many damn minigames on the Wii in general. Paper Mario is cool, but IMO the 3D gimmick gets a little stale halfway through. funny writing though.

I haven't tried a Classic controller, but I believe any game that can use it can also use the N64 controller, but most N64 games don't work with the classic controller... so you may be better off w/ a N64 controller than a classic

As far as I understood, you can use either a Gamecube or Classic controller for any N64 games, but someone else will have to confirm this... I don't own any N64 games on my VC.

    My favorite Wii games are:
    Zelda TP
    Resi4 WE
    Prime 3 Corruption
    Super Paper Mario
    Trauma Center 2nd Opinion
    Mario Strikers Charged
    Sonic and the Secret Rings
    Metal Slug Anthology

I also enjoyed Rayman, but maybe there are other more suitable games of that genre now or coming soon, I have no idea. Maybe Warioware is preferable I don't know.

You could get Wii Play for another remote. But I honestly never derived much from that piece of software, even with friends and casual gamer friends.

You could always get any old GCN games you missed out on as well, like the Metroid Primes and Zelda and Marios and what have you.

Looking forward to this fall, I plan on getting:

    Guilty Gear Accent Core
    Zack and Wiki
    maybe Table Tennis
    BWii
    Geo Wars Galaxies
    Ghost Squad
    RE:UC
    Soul Cal Legends
Rygar (if it turns out well)
    Trauma center New blood

And of course Mario Galaxy and Brawl, and then soon after that will be Mario Kart and No More Heroes and Nights and some other stuff like King Story.

Haven't decided on Mario and Sonic Olympics. I'll probably get Mercury Meltdown since it's only $20. I think i'll probably get Dragon Blade too, because it looks like it will be fun as a Wii game.

There's a ton of VC stuff to get too. Gunstar Heroes is a good place to start. So is CV4, SMB, SMW, Super Metroid, CV1, Starfox, Soldier blade, the Bonks, there are tons of good ones.

Depends on the game. Bomberman '93 allows 5 players. 4 people can use Wiimotes/classic controllers, and the 5th can use a Gamecube controller. Or you can have 4 GC controllers and 1 Wiimote. In that game, you have to old the R button on each controller as you startup the game in order for the GC controllers to be recognized.

It honestly looks better than the other action games in development (Soul Calibur, Rygar) in terms of both graphics and depth of gameplay. I'll probably start a thread for it when I get back from class tonight, and pick it up before the end of the week.

Shit.. I thought it wasn't due for another month or something...

I'm probably going to get it. It looks like fun and a great use of the Wii controls. Plus I think it's only $40.

Not too big on production values but it looks like it's getting the Wii aspects right, and the price is acceptable.

    Hm.

Well I'm waiting on reviews.. not review arbitrary numbers, mind you, but to hear what people have to say about the game.

It won't have stellar graphics of course . But if the gameplay shines due to the dragon blade abilities and the way the wii controls work, then I'll be all for it, for $40.

Would this work with Arcade Sticks? I have Capcom Power Stick Fighter (the one that's special for SFII), and I'd like to use it for playing Gradius 3 on my Wii (I already have every SFII game on SNES, so I don't need to buy them on the VC).

I also e-mailed the site that sells that thing, and the owner never replied back. Maybe because I'm not from USA and he wouldn't want to sell it overseas. Man, living in a third world country about to become comunist sucks fucking ass.

Yeah, it's usually in the manual you can access through the Wii after you buy it. Another 5-player Turbografx game on the VC, Dungeon Explorer, is a bit simpler. It just prompts everyone to press A or start or something on the controllers before the actual game starts up.

Although if you're not doing fancy 5-player stuff, you can just have a GC pad plugged in, and play using it straight off, or with it and a Wii remote for 2-player, no need to do any setting up.

Games I can personally vouch for:
Zelda (more like... ah, forget it)
    Super Paper Mario
    Resident Evil 4
Red Steel (you may not be happy with this, it's a bit unpolished and MP3 may spoil you on the controls)
Wii Play (even if you don't like any of the games it's only ten bucks more than another controller by itself)

Games I've heard good things about but haven't played:
    Excite Truck
    Rayman
    Sonic

Also people seem to be recommending the charger for the wiimotes, and if you plan to take your Wii to friends' houses a wireless sensor bar might be a good idea.

The only way I can think of is by having two remotes connected and not actually use the player one remote and then having a GC controller in port one. It requires two remotes though, and if you have two why not just use them?

    Also, my suggestions:

    Elebits/Eledees
    Dewy's Adventure
    Metroid Prime 3
    Resident Evil 4
Big Brain Academy (It's only cheap)

    Wario Ware
Wii Play (for the extra controller)

Also, did anyone know Samba de Amigo is confirmed for a wii release?

Duh. I feel like an idiot. Plug the GC controller into port for the second player.

But is there a way to have a Wii remote as player 2 and GC controller as Player 1?
The "holding R as you start up" method should take you to a screen where things will get recognized like that.

Hands up if you could have guessed TSR was going to suggest that?

    Also, my suggestions:

    Super Paper Mario
    Mario Strikers
    Excite Truck
    Trauma Centre
    Elebits/Eledees
    Dewy's Adventure
    Metroid Prime 3
    Resident Evil 4
Big Brain Academy (It's only cheap)
    Zelda
    Wario Ware
Wii Play (for the extra controller)

Also, did anyone know Samba de Amigo is confirmed for a wii release?

I would make a thread about it but people normally beat me to it.

    ::Edit:: Indeed they did.

I waited until other people mentioned it so the bias wouldn't seem so apparent.

Besides, you saying I don't know what a good sonic game is? You don't see me recommending Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 360, or Sonic Heroes, do you?

Well, you'd be a bit daft to really, considering none of those are on the Wii :D

But you're right, by most people's accounts it's a return to form for the sonic series and well worth a mention (personally I didn't like it but that might just be me as it's very popular).

You can play Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes on the wii.

Man I had high hopes for sonic Heroes. I feel it came very close to the sonic visual style, but damn... what an awful game.

Pretty much avoid all 3D sonic games except for the original Sonic Adventure and Sonic Wii.

    Even Sonic 3D Blast?

    Or especially Sonic 3D Blast?!

I've only played the first level on Sonic Mega Collection. Also, what's the deal with "Sonic the Fighters" or whatever they may have called it on that Sonic Gems compilation that I didn't buy? I have Sonic R and Sonic CD on PC, so if I bought it I'd almost be getting it exclusively for that.
