Xbox Live - garage network?

I have the Xbox 360 in the garage. The house is now happy wholesome family Wii territory, and rightfully so. But the 360 wireless G connection to our Linksys router has degraded to the point where I have canceled my Gold subscription. I'm looking for networking solutions here.

My brother thinks we should get an N router, which is supposed to have superior range and speed, and though it would work with G devices like the 360 adapter, I don't know if would improve the connection.

Another thing I tried to do today is move the router and modem into the garage, since all devices in our house are wireless. But the cable connection would need two splitters, and one of them sucks. I may just try getting a better splitter.

Does anyone know if a N router, or better G router would fix the dead zone that is our garage?

Do this. We switched to an N routed earlier this week and not only have we noticed a marked improvement in connection quality and speed, but the range is much wider. I can now get a wireless connection at the bottom of the garden, and our router is at the front of our house (the previous router had trouble getting a signal to my room at the back of the house).

Failing that - Signal Repeaters. They're cheaper, but they're not necessarily going to be your best option.

There are solutions to run a wired connection through electrical outlets as well, might be more pricey (100$ for the whole setup). Personally I never used them so I can vouch for how well they work.

And that's an improvement for Xbox Live as well? If so, that sounds good.

I've been a Linksys person for a while, and one computer in the house uses a Linksys G USB adapter to connect to the WRT54G. Would a Linksys N be okay or is a particular brand better?

I have no idea. I know that most N routers are backwards compatible so long as you set the router to use both N and G. The router we have is a D-Link, and the only problem I've had so far is that my Nintendo DS knows the router is there but cannot connect to it (which is probably to do with our chosen security settings).

How the hell is a wireless N router going to improve a G connection? The 360 doesn't use N. It may be a better G router, but that has nothing to do with being an N router.

    No shit!

All I said was since switching to an N-router which is backcomp with wireless G, I've experienced much better connection quality and speed. I was asked if my 360's connection had also improved since switching to this router, and I responded in the affirmative. The Wireless Receiver for the 360, so far as I'm aware, isn't N-compatible at present, but nevertheless my connection quality is miles better. I'm just stating the facts here, you don't need to bite my balls off over it.

Sorry, man, it just sounded like you equated switching to an N to better quality. If you had said "got a new router" then I might have understood better. No offense intended.

Thank you all for your help.

You just reminded me. I use the original Xbox wireless G adapter. I'm sure it performs the same. But the new ones are just so tiny and cool looking I have to stop myself from buying one sometimes.
