Okay, this OP is a work in progress. Since we're not a huge group like the 360 GTA4 peoples, its a bit harder to get big games going without organizing it outside of the game, and our group is too big to do it via PM. I didn't want to clutter the main thread, which moves fast enough as it is. Also, starting this thread myself means I don't have to pester Dashui to update the list.
Everybody let me know if you have a headset. If you don't, please get one. It makes the game a lot more fun when you can communicate. I personally suggest a USB headset, since it is so simple to setup.
I also think it would be great if we had a GTA4 night, like Warhawk night, but with less Warhawk, and more murder simulation.
i'm using the same headset i use for TF2 on the pc, i'm not sure how it works in this though as i didn't ask anybody how i sounded
umm...so yeah, i'm up for killing people tonight if the online is working

I suppose you can throw me on that there list. PSN is Random35. I have a crappy headset, but I rarely use it, because it would pick up stray noise and make it look like I was talking when I was really just breathing. I have another, slightly less crappy Motorola headset that I might give a whirl if I can find a AAA battery. I work full-time, though, so I can't guarantee that I'll be able to play multi too often, but the PS3 list seems short enough that it probably won't matter.
i think ive added everyone on the list at this point. whenever ive been getting into the multiplayer i just throw an invite at everyone whos online on principle. i would be down for a regular night, i would definitely try to make it to that. i work full time, but the latest i ever work is 9pm EST so i should still be able to make it just about whenever.
also, i picked up a USB headset yesterday entirely for this game. hopefully it sounds ok, im going to test it out tonight. is there a push to talk button in GTA, or is it just always on or what?
I also am on your list. I think I have added everyone on the list, but some of you have not responded...tsk tsk. Anyway, I have the crappy Bluetooth headset that came with Warhawk which I no longer have. I may be on tonight.
anyone having luck connecting to the multiplayer? mine wont connect at all. also the game hard froze my system (60gb) twice this afternoon. im officially frustrated
Only issue I've had with multiplayer is that it took 2 minutes to connect initially after I loaded up my saved game a minute back. Otherwise no problems at all.
I'm going to see if I can get a game going at ~5 PST (8 EST) tonight (04-30) and we shall carry on through the night with craziness. Slap me down as a yes on headset, by the by.
Are we gonna meet up in Free Mode for a while and wait for people to show up before starting specific game modes? What modes do people want to try out the most?

Man, I tried to do some multiplayer last night, but I could never get on. Now I probably won't be able to until the weekend.

For those checking the thread, I will be on in 30 minutes...
OK, we're finishing up a race now. Going to invite anyone I saw who posted here, accept fast. Then going to send out a round of invites for a Team Deathmatch and get it rolling.
For anyone having trouble with their bluetooth headsets, make sure you sync it, then go into audio settings and set the headset for your audio. Then I had to press the button on mine to activate it when finally in GTA.
I might have a pending invite sent out to you already, please check your messages!
i tried earlier but couldnt connect, and then the game froze my ps3. im going to try to get on again in a bit here and see how it goes. honestly im getting ready to just say forget it until a patch drops that resolves whats going on at the moment. i mean the game will still be fun in a couple days right. right
I'm afraid I don't have a headset yet, but it's on my list. I know it's a huge asset for the teamwork required in GTA multiplayer. I figure this is the very best place to ask for advice on the subject:
What's the best headset for the PS3? I don't mind one with a usb cord or whatever (I've never used one, I'm clueless on the subject), but when I played Call of Duty 4 I could never understand a word the other players were saying on voice chat. The only thing I could ever make out was when one dude left his on, and we could all hear a baby crying in the background (deep shades of wrong, there).
So I'll go for a headset, but I want it to be the best bloody headset it can be, in that people can actually tell what I'm saying when I speak into the mic.
PA PS3 owners, I need your help! What's a good headset to use with the PS3?
(Thanks for any help.)

Well the best headsets are the ones with a boom mic that comes out closest to your mouth. Most Bluetooth headsets don't have this and while they can sound ok they often pick up more ambient noise. Also a lot of ps3 owners have their Mic sensitivity set way too high so you hear shit like crying babies. (Start yours on one or two and move it up little by little test it via voice chat with someone, I'd be happy to help you calibrate)
IMO the best case scenario would be bluetooth headset with mute and boom mic. But I don't think many of those are made and they would probably be expensive. So your cheap alternative is usb mic.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
USB mic if you don't mind the cable. Don't have to worry about the cord. Some great games tonight with the crew, unfortunately some people couldn't get in (Descendant X ) even though all my ports were firing their lazers. Very memorable moments, many involving last minute getaways, RPGs, or last minute epic failures (I uh.. sunk the escape chopper..)
Join us next time! I'll probably just send out invites whenever I feel a hankering and see a good amount of people on. Even if your name isn't up on that list add me anyway while you're waiting and I'll throw some invites all up over you if we're getting something going.
how can i turn my headset's output volume up? its so quiet you cant hear anything basically. i couldnt find a global system option for it or an in game one in gta4. ive got a logitech usb headset that i bought yesterday for this game. in the ps3 chatroom app theres an output volume control so i can get it to a hearable level, but that doesnt seem to affect anything outside the chatroom.

That seems to be a general problem. It's nigh impossible to hear anyone in the Metal Gear Online beta, even when you double the mic volume through the in-game options. It's slightly better in Warhawk, but still difficult. I haven't looked yet, but I wonder if it's something we can change in the Playstation 3 settings instead of in-game. If you can't, then it's something that really needs to be addressed.

Motorbikes + Grenades. That was the funniest shit ever. Especially all the cries of "HOW THE FUCK?!" while I cackled like a madman. I think I might jump on the usb headset bandwagon, the bluetooth one I got with my retail copy of warhawk is kinda uncomfortable and not really very loud.
