Bunch of new media out for this game. Again, it looks super promising to me.
(I just realised this is my second EA game thread in as many minutes but thats only because of the EA event this week for press)

The game's plot revolves around Isaac Clarke (whose name is an amalgam of Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov), a space engineer who works for the Concordance Extraction Corporation (C.E.C), a company that operates "giant mining ships" throughout the galaxy. His company receives a distress call from the USG Ishimura, a “Planet Cracker†class ship that takes dead planets, and destroys them to extract valuable ore for the company. In the assumption that the ship has had a mechanical failure, Isaac gathers coworkers Lt. Zach Hammond, security officer, and Kendra Daniels, local Tech specialist. As they set out to meet with the ship upon the cruiser class Kellion, they soon realize that this is no ordinary distress call. The team soon finds that the ship has been overrun by a mysterious alien race. After boarding the ship, Clarke is separated from his party and this routine check becomes a race for his life.
Gametrailers TV for today (Saturday 17th May) has a shitstorm of gameplay. And well, I'm still undecided.
It could be the next Doom 3. Shit hot graphics, atmosphere and sound but really, nothing more than run and gun gameplay.
File this under 'cautiously optimistic' for me.
Releases on Halloween this year. And well, I'll probably grab it as long as it doesnt suck. Been too long since I played a good horror game, and a proper one too.
(New thread because necroposting in the old one would be a hilarious occurence, seeing as its on like page 15 or something)
Posts
I shall now eagerly devour the new stuff. Any of these the comic book thing they did? I didn't bump the old one to post that, since I figured a few people would just piss all over it. Was decent, I liked some bits, but not the best thing I've ever seen.
I'd guess that's the wrong expectation to go in with (since people might think of it in terms of the RPG nature of System Shock 2 or whatever). I'd guess it's probably somewhere between Doom 3 and RE4. Hopefully with more interesting combat than the former, and better storytelling/delivery than the latter.
the monsters are so nasty, jesus christ
Im sure someone there said there are periods of 30+ minutes with no enemies and no other people at all, just you and the empty ship.
which sounds great.
but like i said, at this point too little is known to say how good it will be.
Yeah, I do hope this turns out to be the case.
The zero gravity stuff looks awesome.
I'm hoping it turns out well because if it doesn't, I won't buy it and I'll have to play something else and that would be a travesty, I guess.
It's also great that EA is expanding their horizons. They didn't even buy this new IP!
buh?
In what way? It's... a really common concept art style. Because it's concept art. What about it do you feel rips off of Homeworld?
Heh, that put a smile on my face.
HEY! HEY! FUCK YOU!
That's already been announced. It's called Doom 4 :P
Doom 3 came out so shitty in part because id was never quite sure if they wanted to make a horror game or an action game and they ended up with a pretty shitty middle ground where the game constantly tried to be the former by using mechanics far better suited to (and already successfully used in) the latter.
Dead Space might end up not good, but I doubt it would be for the same reasons.
Am I the only one that enjoys a little brainless fun every now and then?
Yeah, Doom 3 didn't break any new ground, but OH SHIT, OH SHIT, THAT FUCKING IMP CAME OUT OF NOWHERE *BUDADADADADADA* SCHREEEEEEEE
*fizzzzz*
Same thing with this game. Teh G@yspy says it "Draws unabashedly from every space horror film ever made" but so long as it's fun and I run around shooting horrific aliens with cool weapons, so what?
Just like Bioshock totally ripped off System Shock 2; so what, it was fun.....
Margaret Thatcher
well yeah, there's only a couple years difference between the release of the two
hurp durp
hurp durp
What? What does that have to do with what I just said?
Just about the closest piece I could find to the OP concept art. Not really seeing it, myself; Homeworld ships are very asymmetrical, boxy, unaerodynamic, with very big glowing engines. Very sixties sci-fi novel.
This looks a bit more Alien, a bit more 80's grit. It has ribs and antenna and all kinds of stuff, but it's also quite symmetrical and designed. More reminiscent of the ship from Event Horizon than anything else, I think.
Even more, he reminds me of Theo DaCabe's final form in Six Days A Sacrifice.
Trying at what? How the fuck should I know? You're the one trying it.
Dude, I love Homeworld, I know what it is. I'm just saying, that's about the closest piece I could find to the industrial and artistic style of the OP concept art.
You're right; many Homeworld ships are symmetrical. What I guess would have better expressed what I meant is that they often use unusual, arhythmic shapes and forms, and that often includes asymmetry.
But here's one which actually is pretty similar;
The more I look at Homeworld stuff, the more I see what you're saying, but I get the impression more of mutual inspiration from old book covers and movies than a direct theft.
