So, everyone knows what a cat is, right?

cat-breeds.jpg

fritz-sofa.gif

Your challenge is to draw a cat.

But not just any cat. This cat must be in one other AC Forumer's art style. And it must be recognizably so.

So who shall you copycat today?

Will you make a sexy anthro Wakkawa styled cat lady*?

Maybe you'll make a military McGibs cat?

How about an adorable Beavotron kitten?

Or a fierce Iruka styled cat?

NightDragon, Angel of Bacon, Scosglen, Melting Doll, t i m, Grenn, Moss...

Let's face it, we have a lot of great artists here -- time to flatter ONE of them in the best way we know how -- IMITATION!

*While anthropomorphic cats are allowed in this contest, please refrain from delivering just straight-up girls with cat ears and a tail - no costumes!

~ BI-WEEKLY CHALLENGE THREAD ~

For those of you who frequent the conceptart.org forums this should be pretty familiar; tens of artistic combatants thrown together in to an artistic arena, each struggling for the honor of being dubbed a master of the visual arts. Those of you who succeed will be bathed in glory and the blood of their competitors, those of you who fail will be exiled to a life of shame and isolation.

The aim of this thread is to try and spice things up a bit here in the ol' Artist's Corner. This thread is for entries in to the challenge or the discussion thereof. If you'd like to suggest a topic for the weekly challenge, go right ahead, but understand that the last winner of the challenge has total control over the task (unless they have won more than two challenges in a row, see rules).

The rules are simple;

RULES:

* One entry per person, per challenge.
* A contestant cannot win more than two challenges in a row.
* Winner gets the privilege of choosing the next challenge.
* At the end of a challenge, the thread is locked and a new one is begun.
* Stick to the challenge topic; no going off on a tangent.
* All formats welcome, whether they be traditional or digital; 2D or 3D; still or animated.

If you're looking for inspiration, check out the aforementioned conceptart.org forums (specifically the creature/environment/character of the week sections).

    damn

I was going to draw a wicked Tam cat

the problem here, mully, is that a lot of those styles are refined to a point that they're inimitable to the rest of us.

I only have access to pencil and pen, so I don't think I'll be capable of participating since most of the recognizable styles around here are digital

I think the idea is to, you know, challenge people. You know, with the art. Because it's an art challenge thread.

Though I suppose you could always look through some old webcomic threads until you find someone mediocre enough you could imitate easily and be like, "YEAH TOTALLY MAN I TOTALLY NAILED Xx_:[email protected]||njI458:_xX's STYLE HERE MAN", but that would make you a tool. Better to try to imitate someone better than you and try to learn something in the process.

The only thing objectively wrong with this challenge is the fact that I don't like cats very much.

exactly. Wakka has a very distinct coloring and drawing style totally independent of women.
    Scosglen wrote: »

and, scos, you definitely have a style. trust me, I recognize it every time I scroll down a page in the doodle thread. there may be other people with a similar one, but not around here.

I predict more than one person will go for Beavo's because they think vectors are easier than going for cakemikz' crazy rendering.

Everyone has a style. mully denied it when I said I can recognize hers and I'm sure you will all agree with me.

As for wakkawa, look there's a drawing with a cat already in it that is in no way a humanoid: http://wakkawa.iseenothing.com/pictures/pic38.jpg

Maybe we could do a slightly different style of voting, where the submissions are anonymous or something but the ones that people can guess the style correctly the most get more points? Although that might make a disincentive for picking someone with a less definitive style. Something, though.

  • LoomdunLoomdun Registered User

I don't see why that would have to be done, you would still be voting on what you like most. Might as well just keep the voting same, its just a more difficult challenge
