Every excerpt I've seen from Palin's book so far has been textbook GOPAC word salad, just like everytime she talks in public.

She's not even attempting to connect with anyone who actually pays attention to the words. Her crowd is the one that thinks it's more important that she's speaking than that she say anything coherent.

A series of emails obtained by The Huffington Post reveal the truth behind Palin's famous Saturday Night Live appearance. In the book, Palin says that "from the beginning, I liked the idea that John and I might appear on the show. 'Let's do this,' I said. 'Let's go on and neutralize some of this, and have some fun!'" The e-mails paint a slightly different picture. One dated October 14, 2008, quotes Palin as saying she is "not thrilled" about the idea. "Not after seeing clips of what they've been playing re: my family," she writes to top McCain campaign aides. "I had no idea how gross 'celebrities' on that show and in other celebrity venues could get when it comes to family and other aspects of my life that have nothing to do with seeking the vp slot. These folks are whack."
No Palin interview is complete without a mention of Ronald Reagan, so of course her book includes some praise for the former U.S. President. According to Palin, the Reagan-era recession was far worse than what the U.S. is currently faced with, but he "showed us how to get out of one. If you want real job growth, cut capital gains taxes and slay the death tax once and for all." Hit us with the facts, AP!: "The estate tax, which some call the death tax, was not repealed under Reagan and capital gains taxes are lower now than when Reagan was president. Economists overwhelmingly say the current recession is far worse. The recession Reagan faced lasted for 16 months; this one is in its 23rd month. The recession of the early 1980s did not have a financial meltdown."

I honestly don't think honesty matters at all for this book, or for the people reading her book. It has her name on it, it sounds like her, and so whatever is in it is their truth.

    Sounds familiar...

I will be amazed if she's around for the 2012 race. She didn't even finish her first term.

In a new interview with Newsmax, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin hinted that a “dream ticket” of Palin and Fox News host Glenn Beck is not out of the question:

“I can envision a couple of different combinations, if ever I were to be in a position to really even seriously consider running for anything in the future, and I’m not there yet,” Palin tells Newsmax. “But Glenn Beck I have great respect for. He’s a hoot. He gets his message across in such a clever way. And he’s so bold – I have to respect that. He calls it like he sees it, and he’s very, very, very effective.”

Palin is a big Beck fan. In August, she wrote on her Facebook page, “FOX News’ Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House. Monday night he asked us to invite one friend to watch; tonight I invite all my friends to watch.” Maybe they could go up against Michele Bachmann and Steve King?

There's no way they'd get elected. They'd cruise through the primary and get crushed in the general.

The stuff they've written collectively is so full of objectively false information, they'd be spending 90% of their airtime responding to "gotcha" questions on them.

I fully expect after a week for Palin to refuse to take questions on any medium aside from townhalls she hosts. Could such a campaign even be done? How would she handle debates?

I kind of doubt that they'd even get through the primary.

A campaign still has to fundraise and build a functional structure, and there's little to zero evidence that Palin can actually do that. Beck, even less so.

Question: why do some people say that criticism of this woman is nothing more that her critics being scared of her. I have heard this many times. I think she's in way over her heard so why would people be afraid of her? I cannot see her securing the nomination of her party. In fact, I don't think she'd ever win another election again.

Because it's an easy way of dismissing the critics without actually addressing the critics' points.

Personally, I'd be pretty worried about a Palin/$_Charismaticperson ticket. Enough people vote based on some random soundbite or catchphrase without looking any deeper that her "word salad" might just hit enough buttons to git 'er done. Like Obama's "my Muslim faith" soundbite - having never heard (or heard of) the rest of the interview. Or Howard Dean trying to whip up his supporters sounding like a maniac because the crowd wasn't mic'd.

It's such a shallow kiddie pool that once weird splash makes a wave that sloshes enough to tip the whole thing. I have no faith in the voters to see through the bullshit, is what I'm saying.

Also, it enforces the "liberal media" conservative narrative while deflecting perfectly valid criticism. She's just objectively terrible as a candidate for national public office. I get the feeling many Republicans defend her because she pisses off democrats or for party unity, which is awful in itself.

I don't get it, because I feel there's little chance she'd win a Presidential race, and I think huge numbers of people would agree with me.

I think you pretty much summed up American political culture; it seems to be made up of nothing more than sound bites and catch phrases. Politics is so polarized down there. I have heard people say that Obama was a more dangerous enemy that Bin Laden. Seems a shame.

Thing she lacks that GWB had was is the solid backing of the GOP.

She has some grassroots but the bigwigs in the party must despise her at this point.

After how thoroughly George Bush destroyed the Republican party, the GOP bigwigs would be fucking insane to back her at this point.

The problem is there are no such thing as "party bigwigs" or at least they are so few that they don't really matter. There are some who are just playing at this insanity but they make up a very small part of the rank and file party officials. If you look up red state county GOP committees, its going to be stocked with teabaggers. That's why we keep getting "X County Republican Chair sends out racist emails/comparisons to the Holocaust/birther" stories. There isn't a clear division between the Republicans and Republican Party leadership except at the very highest levels and those levels can't act without county/state level support or support from the office holders who are also either de facto tea baggers or terrified of them.

Its an inmates/asylum situation. There's almost no one left who isn't a whackjob to be mad at the whackjobs.

A large part of it is that the scandals that occured in the middle of this decade, like Abramoff and ARMPAC, pretty much decimated the GOP leadership, creating a vacuum. Seriously, think about where you were in January 2005, and do you really think at that time, the GOP would have in 2008 a three way fight between Mittens, McCain, and Huckabee? A lot of these guys are punching way above their weight class, and that's in large part because they got promoted up before they were ready.

The other problem is that a lot of these leaders have power bases that may overlap with the GOP base, but are not of the base. Pat Toomey is a great example - being a leader in the Club for Growth, he has his support base from there, meaning that Ensign had few options for getting him of Specter's back, even if he hadn't been schtupping his mistress.

The compination of the two means that in many ways, the GOP is no longer in the drivers seat of their movement, which is not a good place for them to be.

This is by yards better than the analysis on cable news.

    This ^^^^

I have friends who think that she is some Reagan-esqe savior that will rescue the US from itself. Some of them are actually intelligent people and it befuddles me to no end.

Any valid criticism of her is met with the logical equivalent of "Oh yeah well Obama...". But guess what dipshit, I'm not talking about Obama. I'm talking about the fucking idiot that you think would make a good POTUS. Fuck, half the NFL manages to get their communication degrees in less than 6 years.
