Also, in going through his library, I realize there's only one song I don't actively like. Genius in France. Unlike Albuquerque and Trapped in the Drive Throu I feel like GiF drags on and on. The other two long form songs are great but France? No.
Edit: Oh man, I never knew he made a video for Bob. That song had me rolling the first time because I fucking hate Bob Dylan.
Many people aren't aware of his non-parody songs, which really is a shame, since there are some great tunes there.
I think as a whole these tend to be better
the parodies start to get kinda eh after the novelty wears off. If you're just listening to it for the sake of listening to music, then why wouldn't you just listen to the originals?
the original songs don't have that problem
I think my favorites though are when he sort of goes halfway and makes a song in the style of another band/artist but doesn't directly parody one of their songs

I'm particularly fond of Hardware Store, Pancreas, Franks 2000" TV, CNR, My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder, Since You've Been Gone, I'll Be Mellow When I'm Dead, Nature Trail to Hell, Dare to be Stupid, This is the Life, You Make Me, and The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota.
what's stopping you from going back and getting the old stuff
nothing, that's what
I've picked up most of the old stuff here and there, it's just that listening to those Permanent Record tapes a billion times in high school kinda overwhelms any cohesive sense of an actual album from that era.
the drum part of Another One Rides the Bus was hands drumming on his accordion case
Yup, Another One Rides the Bus was recorded live in Dr. Demento's studio and is the first time Al met the guy who would become the permanent drummer in his band, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. Jon was the guy banging his hands on the case.
Another fun fact: Buckingham Blues was originally supposed to be a parody of Jack and Diane. If you look at the lyrics, they still fit pretty well with the tune.
I love the cover art for this album so much. I smile every time I see it.

The night Santa Went Crazy was my favorite Weird Al song as a kid.
That and his Michael Jackson parodies and Amish Paradise.

so much about this post is wrong!
Ahahaha god damnit I want to go to a concert just to hear this happen
Why would you like it if you hate Bob Dylan?
This is so easily his best work ever.
I heard Alapalooza when I was 5 on cassette and that was it.
Gonna go with "Why Does This Always Happen To Me?" as the best song, with Amish Paradise running a close second.

You Make Me
Why Does This Always Happen To Me
it's just the right mix of funny and depressing
no foolin'
I started with Permanent Record, so I only have albums from Bad Hair Day on. Running With Scissors is probably still my favorite.

just because I really like the way the accordion sounds and it's more prominent on that album than the others
dunno if that's quite enough to make it my favorite though
Poodle Hat would have to be up there just because it was the first album he released after I started listening to him

Midnight Star is one of my all time favorites, which I never hear anyone talk about.

Anybody in LA go to be in the video?

Weird Al twittered (twat?) about these videos, then got asked to guest star on MLP as a result. Hopefully that will be happening in season 2.

their = belonging to them
there = not here
they're = they are
That and his Michael Jackson parodies and Amish Paradise.
he was crazy into weird al and it infected me
good to hear he's still trucking
