Anyway Jacob I think that from a story-telling perspective the way to deal with a character that has outlived his era is to tell a story about a guy who has outlived his era, not to try to sort of re-appropriate the character into another era's genre tropes.

Mature and experienced aren't quite the same thing. And you've got some heavy shit in your life. I'm not saying it can't work. I am wondering if you've objectively looked at it. How will she handle an anxiety attack? How is she gonna deal with you if you have one of those nights where you need to check the doors and windows a dozen times. What you're proposing is improbable under normal conditions but you aren't bringing normal conditions to the table.
