It's actually a good game! It's also got a screenshot mode that lets you fiddle with depth of field and stuff, so let's kick off the thread with some of my pretty pictures:

Ok, it's not actually as technically pretty as Motorstorm: Pacific Rift but it runs at 1080p and the amount of crap it throws around (tracks deform as stuff explodes) looks incredibly impressive when in motion.I picked it up a while ago and have just got round to playing it. I know this forum is quite 360 centric but those with a PS3 that enjoy a good arcade racer should definitely give this a go. Here's the wikipedia spiel:
The game takes place in an apocalyptic urban area called The City, based on the West Coast of the United States (in particular California's Bay Area). The game consists of more than 40 tracks that can be altered from active catastrophic earthquakes and helicopters crashing through buildings.

New vehicles in the game include supercars, superbikes, hot hatches, muscle cars and choppers. Apocalypse is the first game in the MotorStorm series to focus on an urban setting as opposed to natural environments. The city that the Festival takes place in is enduring the throes of a massive natural disaster, causing the man-made structures in the city to visibly deteriorate. As players race through the tracks, the tracks can change in real-time; bridges can buckle and twist, buildings collapse and rifts open up beneath the vehicles as they drive. Players can also customize their vehicles with vinyls, vehicle parts, and modify the vehicle's handling, boosting and offensive abilities through perks. They are able to create and design their own game rules for online tournaments. A new gameplay element is the addition of "air cooling" one's boost. Similar to driving through cool water in Pacific Rift would speed up the rate of boost cooling, releasing the accelerator over a large jump will also cause the boost temperature gauge to drop quicker.
A new challenge in Apocalypse is the introduction of people who try to interfere in the event. The City houses two factions, known as the Crazies and Dusklite, who vie for survival. These groups try to impede the progress of the racers. They loot broken buildings, break into fights on the streets, steal cars and try to slam racers off the road, and attack racers with firearms. A private military company attempts to enforce order and their involvement creates additional hazards for racers to overcome such as an attack helicopter firing missiles onto the track.

And after playing it last night here are a few highlights from my evening:

- Driving THROUGH an office building and smashing out the window on the other side
- Navigating my way on a motorbike through a hurricane with everything being picked up and thrown all around me.
- Narrowly avoiding a tower block collapsing on me by boosting at the last second and escaping
- Having a helicopter launch a barrage of missiles at me whilst I'm on a bridge, the missiles hit the bridge and the whole thing collapses and I ride it to the ground.
- Having said helicopter crash and explode mere seconds in front of me, causing me to swerve on to another pass.

All of this in full 1080p or (if you're a fan of it, like me) in full stereoscopic 3D.

The game is amazing, full of completely over the top action. It's almost like mad max the video game, I was driving along a beach and had lunatics start throwing molotov cocktails at me, so I headed straight for them, hit one and he clung on for dear life whilst I hand break turned around a corner.

Still not convinced? Try some videos:

Fight your way through a Tornado:

Bridge collapsing whilst driving over it? Not a problem (Skip to 50 seconds in)

Watch shit explode, people die and a friggin' jet almost land on a bike in this great little trailer:

So, anyone else given this a try? Anyone else a fan of the series? Motorstorm was one of the first games I got for the PS3 and I loved it, despite the over-use of BROWN, then Pacific Rift came along and blew me away. Apocalypse definitely mixes things up, a totally different game to Pacific Rift.

I was a fan of the second game until I found it impossible to win the later races. Rubber-Banding AI needs to die.

I managed to complete it, getting gold in all the races but it really took some doing. The AI was a son of a bitch, it's a little better in this one but not much. I was put off this game massively by the demo, the new vehicles they give you are really twitchy and light and they're the ones they chose for the demo. The actual game plays much better.

I remember playing LewieP at Motorstorm: Pacific Rift on a demo build at a festival. I won the race but instead of coming first I came 0th.

I had a real blast with Pacific Rift too, goddamn that was a difficult game to beat at Tier 8! At least it made trouncing the online component easier :)

It appears to be teetering on my usual purchase level, but my backlog of arcade racers already has Split/Second in it so I'm better off getting some fun out of that first and let Apocalypse dive a little more.

I never forgave them for showing us what was supposed to be mud being deformed by your tires in an awesome way and then being not even close to doing that in the actual game.

SEGA Rally for the 360/PS3 did the mud deforming thing, and it was awesome, imo.

It made me buy SEGA Rally Online when it was released, and then I discovered that they had removed that feature. :(

Now I really want a refund for SEGA Rally Online and I want Outrun Online back, damnit SEGA!

Finished the first chapter of the story on this game. The last stage is fantastic, it's a race to an aircraft carrier (the story is far from in-depth, there's no spoiling it!) through the ruins of a city, during a massive earthquake. Giant tower-blocks collapse on you, bridges give way underneath your wheels and the subway system caves in whilst you try to make it out alive.

It's a crime how under-appreciated this game is!

Also it supports custom soundtracks, which is a rare thing on the PS3. I've been darting around rooftops to a bit of AC/DC.

It does look pretty good in 3D, though.

So this thread is a year old now and I decided to resurrect it. Motostorm Apocalypse is free on PSN+ (at last in the EU) right now, though I think it may finish soon.

Download it. It's wonderful, amazing, exhilerating, exciting, cheesey and everyone should play it.

the digital version doesnt have any of the terrible cinematics in it, which is weird but whatever. its a pretty alright game. grinding out the terrible multiplayer trophies was a pain in the fucking ass. i think motorstorm RC is way way better, for my motorstorm buck. its a different thing though.

Really? I loved the cheesey cinematics for the story mode, they were fantastic (ok, dreadful, but I enjoyed them).

I'm enjoying RC but I think Apocalypse has been my favourite of the bunch. I haven't played much multi though, not big in to trophies.

whoever thought up the collectible card thing was a weirdo too.

game is definitely real fun though, especially for free.
