Have I got some news for you!
While The Penny Arcade Forums close on the 20th of May, 2025, we have provided a brand new forum:

How To Reserve Your PA Username
1: Sign into PA Forums
At this time, we are not accepting new users from outside the established community. This will change in the future but there's no timeline currently.
2: Go to your PM Inbox and click New Message
On mobile devices, this is in your bottom toolbar instead.
3: Send a 6 character PIN to user "coinreturn"
Any combination of numbers, letters, or symbols should work (Mod Edit: Cyrillic characters have been found to not work with this, so maybe stick to English letters), but your message must be exactly 6 characters. An automated process on Coin Return will capture your PIN. Remember this! Without it, your username is locked forever. Your PIN will be associated with your username at the time of sending, so if you plan to change your username, do so in the appropriate thread beforehand.
4: Once you have your PIN set, wait a few minutes (the system checks every 10 minutes) and then register your account on Coin Return. Be sure you use your PA username, and enter the PIN you set in the PIN field during registration
This is all turning out to be amazing!
So, go forth and register your name, I don't know if you can overload a Vanilla's DM box, but Delzhand's Robot will find out.

It seems the Vanilla forum has opinions about people trying to register at other forums, and some forumers have reported that the user "coinreturn" doesn't show up.
Sometimes it seems to help is to start typing the name, nothing comes up in the drop down, move the cursor down to the comment box and then back to the name entry and start typing again.
For others, it just randomly works after the tenth time.
Donkey Kong recommended just providing a direct link to the compose DM for user coinreturn, so here it is:

Update:
If you accidentally send a PIN that isn't 6 characters, or you need to set a new PIN for any reason, you'll need to send a new DM to coinreturn - followup messages in the same conversation don't get picked up.
UPDATE: The forums seems to have broken in new and interesting ways, so, if you can read this, try the following:
(Update to the update: Delz and crew fixed it...for now, for those technical, it was an CSS issue, I will keep these shortened instructions in here, in case something breaks again)

if you have an e-mail already on the PA forums, you can't make a new acct on the CR forums with that same one?
You can re-use email addresses, as those aren't transfered between the forums.
I'm not sure if the banned list is being imported into Coin Return though.
Just something I've been thinking about, chances of it happening are low but hey we've seen a lot of very childish alts (and some admittedly funny ones)
I think currently used names will be blocked, but I don't think old names from name changes will be blocked. As those names are technically also free on PA to claim. And there's not a watcher that's constantly looking for name-changes on PA.
Yeps, we also own the .net variant, and might one day just forward it to .org
There wasn't really a big discussion on why .org, it just was needed at that moment because we had some domain transfer hiccups, and the domain name stuck.

this is a general problem with trying to create new PMs on mobile by typing a name into the box

Please don't: it's funny, but it's a tiny bit of personal information I put in a PM, I picked my code expecting only one or two people to ever see it (if even that).
The other thing by that works for me when trying to PM on mobile is typing part of the name, backspacing, then re-typing.
E.g.
type “coinret”
Backspace off 1 letter so you have “coinre”
Type T again, get the suggested list of users.

I originally picked March 31st as our date, but @Quetzi pointed out how close that was to a much better date and c’mon.
Guess we're making new Gort pictures according to the original planning.
Might move that to april, just because we already have the whole new board/mods/officers and new rules vote thing running, plus MNC Dover's voice and the Admin forum name.
