Where do you see captain skills? Do you have to get to a certain level first?

Holy shit. 20k range on main guns. And scout plane, so that's probably 22k range AKA kill the enemy CV from your spawn. Well, with the world's luckiest shot, but still. That's absolutely obscene range.

only if you get one of the lower tier maps, so you need to be with tier 3's. It's possible and i've been on a few of the smaller maps in my Kongo, but it's rare.

Mod C Myogi can also shoot out to 22k with a scout plane up.

Yeah, they start at... 5 I think? They get the first two tiers pretty easily, and the retraining looks reasonable too....

The st louis is still one of the best ships in the game, I hate fighting them even in an Omaha (ap is less effective on them than a phoenix/omaha hull and HE still takes a while to burn one down)

If lag's the issue you might be okay - something like WoWS is going to be more forgiving of that than something like War Thunder or an FPS. An extra 100ms' ping isn't as big a deal when you're firing a dispersed salvo at a slow-moving target an eighth of a mile long.

pbbbbbt it's really frustrating when the first shot that barely hits you in a destroyer knocks out your engine. and then died 30 seconds later to ludicrous amounts of battleship fire because i can't move.

edit: argh and getting a tk because a teammate dives in front of your torpedoes to save an enemy battleship. qqqqq.

I think someone mentioned it earlier, but the cross-game premium does work. So it's better buying the 7 day World of Tanks premium for like $4 than the warships one for $10.

Right, but I still have to do EOT drills and NFU steering drills. Being down in the engine room also means that I get to watch the machinery react to the bridge's commands so I'm very well aware of the delays involved in maneuvering a ship. I've also got wheel time steering one of these things:

Yeah, that's one of the more annoying things to come out of the .4 patch. I always feel bad when I hit a DD on the bow and somehow knock its engine out.

So just a warning but accounts are region locked in this game. I'm gonna need to talk to support about getting on us servers to play with you guys.

Alternatively I'll just go play War Thunder because their server tech isn't a fucking joke.

Co-op mode is handy if you've never driven a certain ship class before. Like when you get a carrier for the first time, it's a good idea to take it into co-op since it's a very different experience from the other ships.

It's good if you want to get some XP for the first few modules though. Because I feel bad whenever I enter with a freshly unpacked ship.
On a carrier for example the difference between the normal and the upgraded fighter is insane.

I gave up on playing DDs for the time being because literally 40-50% of hits were taking out my engine. I don't expect destroyers to he resilient but there has to be some margin for error and bad luck where you don't lose your only defense from a single hit. Especially with the rate of fire some cruisers can sustain, they just spam shells in your direction as soon as you're detected and something is bound to strike home.

The only way I've made any real progress with US DDs has been to play them like cruisers, spin in circles at max range and spam HE. Phoenix or Omaha do that better though. Trying to use the torps occasionally results in some hits if I can abuse terrain to ambush someone. Just I usually die in the process due to multiple engine/rudder/fires (also usually goes for the Phoenix/Omaha too).

Everything I read, suggest that is how you suppose to play them. they have superior guns compare to their Japanese counterpart.

    Edit:
Just finish a game that puts me over 50.1 win rate, Huzzah! It was a crazy game with Saint Louis. Somehow lived to the end of the match despite coming under target fire by 4 or 5 ships due to me going to the wrong side of the map. Got the confederate achievement for it too.

For US DDs you need to pay close attention to the minimap and wait for solid ambush opportunities. IJN DDs can start farting out torpedoes as a primary strategy but US DDs need to look more closely for CQC clusterfucks. Find the good map chokepoints, lurk around islands, use your teammates as distractions, that sorta thing. Play US DDs like rogues in an RPG.

You also work as a great deterrent against things trying to get in on your BBs and CVs so don't be afraid to play escort duty until an opportunity opens up for you to do your thing.

Engines or steering being taken out constantly is a problem in every class of ships right now.

When they changed up captain skills for 0.4, and added in the one to make them work at half capacity when crited they also increased the chance of crits.

So now it just happens all the time, only advice I can give is save repair for engine/steering damage and just let fires/flooding happen.

hah, just had a game where me and 2 other DDs went all the way around the map and blew up their carriers and a few cruisers guarding them from the front. was funny because our team was flaming us and the other team was gloating about how they were going to win on points while we screwed around and then 3 minutes later we had sunk 2 carriers a battleship and 2 cruisers. torpedo life.

I will say, boy it is frustrating when shots just refuse to hit at distance in a battleship. didn't mind the spread so much in a cruiser since you can fire again in 6s, but when the reloads are 20+s the huge spread is brutal.

The Tenryu is basically a cruiser destroyer hybrid. All you sacrifice is a little torpedo reload speed for uber durability and more firepower.

But maybe I just see it that way from my game with a confederate medal and 4 kills as last man standing that got my 3000 exp and mountains of money.

I wish the aircraft carriers weren't quite so buried. In WoT they're basically a tier 2 unlock. Here you have to go through at least 5 other ships before you can toy with them. Plus tier 2 and 3 games rarely put me with a carrier so all of my 'kill planes' missions and cruisers bristling with AA are for nothing.

  • Options
    PolaritiePolaritie Sleepy Registered User regular
My one problem right now with carriers is that IJN fighters are barely better than scout planes - like, you can make enemy bombers turn back... eventually. But US fighters will 100-0 them with no losses, and if they ever catch your bombers you can just kiss them goodbye. If a US fighter group decides to park over your carrier? Well, better hope you have an ally who can chase them away, because if not they've basically sunk you - you'll never get another unit airborne, ever.

Basically, the fighter imbalance is absurd. Sure, my torpedo planes can sink shit nicely... but I had a game that was basically "sink one cruiser, get neutered" because of the above. The carrier doing this could have taken a second IJN carrier out completely with his other fighter group, and then gone on sinking ships with nigh impunity.
