Based on a 1-game sample, I think you have to draft him as a bruiser/melee assassin for this to work. Otherwise you get shit all over as a solo tank, because you don't have the toughness to survive without taking the appropriate talents, and trying to hybridize him really gimps the build. Judgment and the 80% stacking talent on E are huge damage buffs - without them you are basically tank Tyrael with slightly buffed auto attacks.

That Tyrael tech looked amazing. Gonna give it a go. I've always wanted to like Tyrael, but he's just never clicked for me.

3QMs with Hammer, 3 wins. In one of them I went toe to toe with Greymane and (just) killed him. We were 2 or 3 levels ahead, though. Also he didn't use his ult on me... But still, that was a ton of damage output. I'd never taken Viscious Attacks before because I was always taking Maelstrom Shells... It really helps a ton.

Anyway, I'm going to be playing her a lot more. With good positioning she just completely dominates.

I've told people before, AA burst tyrael is a thing that could work; you'd chunk squishies so super hard with it. But that's giving up all your survivability, and searing attacks was one of the weakest talents in that build since tyrael already has mana problems, so it was very niche as to when it was actually worthwhile to go for (like super hard diving a morales).

You know how I talk about people abusing the QM matchmaker to run stupid comps that can't get countered outside of the draft?

That's you two. You two are the assholes I'm talking about.

We ran into a super dive team with Butcher + Kerrigan + Illi + Tyrande (also Zag who swung the game with one insane maw later in the game) when we had like, Jaina and Gul'dan. It was rough, but then--I think @Gachnar was on Auriel? Crystal Aegis did a lot to help against the dive, and I also tried to play the part of sacrifical lamb because if everyone dove me I could just self-cast blizzard, cone them as they come in and they'd be mostly dead by the time they killed me.

We'd probably have won if our Illidan took Hunt (I don't care if you warn us that you're clearing lanes, fucking stick with us at level 20 because they have a hard engage comp and we have no escapes!), but he was absent whenever they jumped on us so it ended kinda lamely.

It's like the olden days when you'd see people duo queue as Diablo+Hammer. The Hammer would shoot everyone dead, and the Diablo would zone for her. That was a pretty terrible combo to random into in QM.

Yeah, I mean, now you can just out-range Hammer.

    Which is sad, really.

Ducks and I ran into the most LEGIT Hammer today while we were queueing. Once on the enemy team, then on our team next game.

She was GOOD. Everytime we'd try to go in, she'd knock us away and zoom off. And she was REALLY patient with it too, making sure we'd both blown our engages.

And then on our team the next game, man she did work. Nailing some really good kills with BFG and just doing a ton of damage.

I lost a HL game yesterday because someone last-picked Gul'dan into Hammer. Nobody said anything through the draft and the first 5 minutes of the game. And then when we started losing because he kept dying, he immediately turned toxic and blamed everyone else. When our Li-Ming pointed out that he had the most deaths AND last-picked Gul'dan into Hammer, he threw a fit and immediately logged off.

It's always the shittiest player on the team who immediately turns the most toxic.

You know, one thing I noticed in watching really good players stream is that they are always reflective of their own performance. Even if they blame someone else, they immediately turn around and say, "Well, I could've done X once Y happened and we would've won" or "if I hadn't died earlier then they never would have been in that situation".

Hah I played as Nova against a Butcher last night. I felt so bad for him. Every single time he pressed E I pressed W, R, Q and he died. He never lasted more than 2 seconds in any of the team fights.

I think there was actually a scientific study done on this at one point, where it turned out that toxic players do in fact tend to be the worst players. Interestingly, there's both correlation AND causation -- they start becoming toxic because they get frustrated with how their expectations don't match up to the reality of how they play, and then, in turn, that anger means that they never bother to get better, especially because they alienate other players who otherwise would be happy to help them improve.

Interestingly I think that study also showed that the very worst players are the ones who spout off racist, misogynist, and homophobic comments.

*edit* Note that the study I'm thinking of (I think?) was done on FPS games (i think call of duty and counterstrike?) but I think the trend likely holds true in all competitive online gaming. Don't become a dick if you suck, because if you do, you will continue to suck and probably get worse.

Eh, I've known plenty of talented gamers who were toxic/trolly AF, and spouted all kinds of nonsense whether they were winning or losing. Guessing that study "benefited" from a bit of confirmation bias.

There was a similar analysis done by Riot games where they saw a correlation between toxicity in LoL and poor work performance toxicity in real life among their employees.

I'm not saying you're wrong in this particular case, but "I think this scientific study is wrong because it doesn't match up with my own anecdotal experience" is absolutely not the right way to think about things like this

edit: plus, if we are going to use anecdotal experiences, mine absolutely line up with this, especially within the PA community. I do worse the ragier I am, and the handful of ragers we have on the forum almost always end up dragging the whole team down when we're grouped, and we do better once they ragequit/we kick them for being a goose.

A gamer can be reasonably talented, but still be doing worse overall / over time because they are toxic geese. Basically, if you have two players of similar skill level, while the toxic player may win games and even get win streaks, over time the player who is not a goose will rack up more wins, and improve overall as a player, than the one who goes off spouting nonsense.

Basically the lesson to take from this is, "Don't be an asshole. If you're having a bad day and start being an asshole, take a deep breath and stop playing the game until you can be nice."

Plus, "If you're losing a lot, and you're pissed, take a step back before you say anything and do a little self reflection. Yeah, maybe that guy is a goose who keeps positioning badly... but maybe you are also doing that?" And if you're too salty to do that at that moment, then, again, take a break from the game.

Yeah I end up doing this all the time too.

There was one game, I don't even remember what happened, but me and someone else got caught out bottom. I forget why we were there, but there was a good reason, we weren't just randomly there. I was like "uggghhg why wasn't our team with ussss", but then I thought for a second and was like "hmm yeah i probably should've been with the rest of the team instead, even if the objectively correct play would've been for the team to be with us down there"

Always always ALWAYS be willing to learn from your losses and mistakes. Ask why things happened, ask if there was literally anything else you could've done differently, especially after each death. Even if it was something simple like "I shouldn't have gone in/been there/etc". If you're not able to actually answer those questions, you've still got a lot of room to improve. If you are able to answer those questions, great! Learn from those mistakes and you'll be less likely to repeat in the future.

It's almost literally the exact same system as in Overwatch which is fine, since that's a good system. No actual tangible rewards, it's just a virtual thumbs up. Which again, is fine.

Games where you have less deaths on murky than some of your teammates are sad games. I had 3 equiv deaths in a game once, so 12 total. Our valla had over 15. It was... not good.

Though I think I actually won that game, was pre-rez timer changes and was the most meatgrinder game I've ever had. First tribute fight was like 3-4 minutes long with just constant rezzing from both sides.
