The queue is a bit full for me to add to it so late, so I'll just stop in to say that what you're doing is great. The art is high quality, the in-progress shots are fascinating, and helping with OxFam is a great idea.
Cheers on the good job, LP'sM.
PS: Are you a trained artist, or is this just from a lot of hobby practice?
Thank you, Templewulf!
Well, I've got art "O" level and that's it (in the UK, "O" levels were the exams you took at age 16, now GCSEs). I like painting, but haven't really done all that much - I can copy OK, but am no good at painting from scratch, it's just something I enjoy doing - it de-stresses me. I play guitar better.

Anyway, tell me what you think, what do I need to do more on to make it better? I'm not sure if I've got the light from the sword in the right place - should it line up with the beam shining over its legs?

That's not something I would worry about. I always use model shots for my hobby stuff; otherwise my sense of proportions gets all funny. A friend of mine is a professional graphic artist, and even he has a reference book full of muscular, half-naked men. Though I always furrow my brow when I see it. O_o
it's just something I enjoy doing - it de-stresses me.

The beam shining over its legs is just a ray of sunlight. The light shining from the sword is used to point out weak-points on the colossus in the game, which you don't need to know, I guess. All you need to know is that it's meant to be separate As long as it's pointing at the colossus in general, it's fine.
OK so the painting arrived. Looks fantastic. I'm going to get pictures up here soon, but I have to recharge my camera battery because I never use the thing except for one-off occasions like this one.
The photos will be more for LewieP's mum than anyone else because she's been posting photos of the painting anyway. I just wanted her to be able to see it in place (Although I haven't gotten it hooked up yet. It's just resting on a shelf right now!).
Well at last I've started the next picture, its for Zarcath, and the original is very pretty.
I've done the pencil outline - its a bit difficult to see, so I've done 3 close-ups of different parts of the picture, hopefully they're a bit clearer than the whole.
Oh wow. That's a nice choice for game artwork. It'd probably be helpful if Zarcath posted the original for comparison, for anyone who's not familiar with the piece.
Wow, this stuff is pretty amazing. I might have to think of a scene and hop into the queue, whats it up to now, like march of next year? Haha, but yeah, excellent work!
Well, here's something weird. I thought I'd start the background (I always do the easy bits first), but most of the picture is background, so here's a few photos:
I've never painted something so fast, I'm hoping I've got it right, feedback please. I think I might need to do more on the moon/planet/sun at the top, to make it a bit more hazy at the edges, but I'd really appreciate feedback - I got the arm on the SOTC for Centipeed completely wrong, but it didn't take too long to fix, so if there are any glaring mistakes on this one, please tell me.

Wow. Just... wow. It was a great idea for a painting to begin with, so kudos to Zarcath for making the choice, but to say that you've done it justice is an understatement. Makes me wish I was a Disgaea fan...
Great work, anyways. I'm going to sit down today and really hunt for a picture as good as that one.

Well, get your skates on, Melatonin, cos its your picture soon, and I thought you wanted the spikey SOTC! (Just in case that doesn't traverse the pond for you jolly foreigners, it means hurry up)

Some more detail in the face would do more justice to the original. And the bracers of the original are much more clunkier. I'd try to get them a bit more firm.
In regard to the moon: the original has some texture on it, would that look good on your painting? I wouldn't worry about the blurriness, the original was edited digitally for that effect, but it doesn't really add anything, I think.

OK, total n0013 question ... what are the bracers please?, and do you have a picture of the face showing more detail please - when I enlarge the picture I've got, it just gets more blurred!
Thank you, I appreciate the help.

Here's a question: has getting involved in the forum a bit and painting these figures from video game lore increased your interest in gaming, at all? Are you considering playing any games, or anything? I bet you'd have fun with a Nintendo DS or Wii, for instance. I bet LewieP could hook you up.
That's beautiful. I'm already curious about the next work.
In a few years one of us will be CEO of a large cooperation and we'll see a painting of Zelda on their wall. One day his/her business partners will come in for a meeting and congratulate the lucky owner on that fine work of art. :P

Well, I can play Wii sports (who can't) and a couple of very simple DS games that you play with the stick/pointer thingy (sorry Lewie, I've forgotten what its called again), but a) I got so stressed by Sonic on Lewie's Master system that I had to stop, and b)I can't manage the controllers on most games consoles - my left hand is tiny with webbed 1" fingers, so I can't hold and use the stick wiggly round things and the key things at the same time. (its called Poland's syndrome)
Lewie and I play Super mario Galaxy where I hold one Wiimote thingy and he holds the other - I collect the stars. Oh, and there's a ducks swimming game that's probably for 3 years olds on PS(?) where you just wiggle the stick thingy that I like. And as for lemmings - heart attack here I come, far too stressful!
Oh, and I've played Portal with him (v e r y s l o w l y) (whohoo, I remembered a game name, and that's where the weighted companion cube comes from, isn't it!)
However, I am enjoying getting involved in the fora, you're on the whole very lovely people.
And thank you again for your praise, I really appreciate it.

This is the finished SOTC for Centipeed - I think its finished cos I'm starting to fiddle with it, which is always dangerous, and a good sign to stop.
