    just play single-player

    once you can consistently beat a level nine 1v1 without fudging the AI, you will be about average

    Where do you live? Smashboards is where I found most all of the players in alabama, they have a section devoted to different regions and areas.

    But the two most important skills are L-canceling and SHFFLing (short-hop fast fall L-cancel). You might notice that if you hit the ground while doing an aerial, your character spends some time getting up, you can get up quicker by doing an L-cancel. To do an L-cancel, do an aerial attack and hit R or L just before you hit the ground. You will recover in half the normal time. It's easiest to see this with Bowser's down air, gannondorfs down air, and Link's down air.

    Short hopping is done by hitting the jump button quickly, it should make you jump about half the height of a full-hop. Fast falls are done by hitting down at the peak of your jump. SHFFLing is done by short hopping into a fast fall, using an aerial, then L-canceling the move.
