No, you don't have to pay it back. They're trying to stimulate our economy.
Well, you could use a tax increase to stimulate an economy as well.
But tax cut has better pr
Shut up.
no u
Really how on earth can increasing taxes stimulate the economy? Are you this dumb?
1. Increase taxes
2. Use said surplus money to fund construction for infrastructure
3. Jobs are created for said project
4. Workers buy food, homes, cars, other dumb shit they don't need
5. ??????
6. Profit!
Yeah looking to the government to create a bunch of low paying temporary jobs is definitely the best way to stimulate a free-market economy. What at all was I thinking?
Which is not to say that it is impossible for the governement to stimulate the economy through work projects and things like that, but why should they put forth the effort when the majority of the politicians have stock in Oil/Gas Companies and security contractors?

It's not really possible with our economy in it's current condition. Raise taxes right now and Wall St. is going to freak the fuck out and then everyone loses money.
* You don’t file a 2007 tax return.
* Your net income tax liability is zero and your qualifying income is less than $3,000. To determine your qualifying income, add together your wages, net self-employment income, nontaxable combat pay, Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits and certain veterans’ payments.
* You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return (whether or not you actually are claimed as a dependent on someone else's return). For example, this would include a child or student who can be claimed on a parent’s return. [Updated 4/15/08]
* You do not have a valid Social Security Number.
* You are a nonresident alien.
* You file Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040PR or Form 1040SS for 2007.
i think with taxes here, everything gets held back, even in excess, and then you should get some money back at the end of the year
so even for casual workers you still get the money deducted automatically and some given back later
anyway its cool i just got like $2000 tax return when i dont think i even made that much thanks to some tax trickery from my mother
but even if i only got back the maybe $600 that i woulda got from work i actually did it would still be good cos its like a bonus at the end of the year
it seems to be a better system because i would rather not be seeing money that gets taken from me later
and what if you are silly and spend it all? like if you think you are making a lot of money and start spending at a higher rate, maybe moving into a nicer apartment or somethin, and then you end up taking a big hit that messes things up.
instead of living within your actual means and then getting a bit of extra money with which to do whatever you want
I'm going to have to go through my mothers taxes to see if she saved more than the 600 stimulus check since she apparently filed me as a dependent without telling me. We're on separate insurance plans and I only moved back home so I could build a goddamn barn in the backyard and help her pay for her (now three) horses. If she takes my goddamn macbook money from me I swear heads will roll.
I'm going to pay off some loans because damn it every little bit toward positive assets is a step in the right direction, fuck pointless spending to enhance the economy.

I've heard a lot of people talking about paying off debts, etc., and I think that still works in favor of the stimulus goal. If you pay off your credit card debt with the stimulus, then you'll be more likely to buy new stuff with your credit card.
Direct Deposit Payments

Your economic stimulus payment deposit should be transmitted to your bank account by:

Paper Check

Your check should be in the mail by:

10 – 18 May 23
19 – 25 May 30

64 – 75 June 27
76 – 87 July 4

What will I buy? Not really sure. Maybe I will spend it on fun stuff (new TV), but I should spend it on practical stuff, like a washer and dryer.

When I pay off of a credit card, I cut the card into a dozen pieces, scramble them up and throw them in four different trash cans. After that, I don't use one until I absolutely have to use one.
Does anyone not direct deposit their refunds? Dayum that is a big difference in when you get your monies there.

Did you file? If so, did you claim yourself?
Yes I did file, and yes I did claim myself, because I didn't think she would claim me as well.
I'm either going to use my Bush money toward my credit card balance or buy a gun and ammo. It really depends on how bad the recession is going to get though.

I also didn't make enough, so I don't get the stimulus.
All I get is my $16 I paid to the fed. And like...46 from the state.
I'm still claimed as dependent.

WIll it only be $300 for you? It only starts to reduce from $600 once you earn 75k or more.
Or if you don't have to pay any additional taxes. If you don't have any tax liability (i.e. you receive a refund), then you only get $300.
Then either save or give the rest to charity. I get a preformance bonus in june anyway so the later would be a nice idea.
I thought he was paraphrasing the best Futurama episode.
That episode was the basis of my statement.
Other than like... our house and cars... and the other $8k on the credit line.

We just paid $15,000 off our debts and we still owe... in the neighbourhood of 125,000 dollars.
