Kids movies that terrified you

The adventures of Mark Twain

Being Australian, and probably like 7 or 8 when I first saw this, it made no sense to me as I had no knowledge of Mark Twain at all. What it did do was terrify me. Not the 'run behind the couch' terrify, it simply chained me to the floor in front of the tv, rendering me frozen, unable to move, and slowly spilled into my mind, I barely blinked.

I completely forgot about it untill finding the old VHS while unpacking my stuff when moving into my new place yesterday. So thats like, 14 years later, Its as if in order to form into a fully functioning adult the experience of watching it had to be wiped from my memory.

I only remember fragments, particularily the mask dudes and the 'destruction of Eden' scenes. Its not quite as unsettling to watch now, its just a weird claymation not really for young children. But as a kid, I remember it unsettled me so much.

Anyway what childhood movies unsettled you? / Childhood movie nostalgia thread.

Kid stuff never got to me as a kid.

Hence, I sought out non-kid stuff to feed my twist unconscious mind.

Some movie called "The Peanut Butter". I think it was in french but I ran out of the room screaming in 3rd grade when they showed it. Some monster-bird thing in a shed was all I remember.

When I was really young there was an episode of that show where the cat chases the yellow little bird. Fuck, I can't even remember the name. Sylvester was the cat? I don't know. Anyway the cat is chasing the bird but the bird drinks this formula that makes it big and monstrous and I was pretty young so I was all fffffffffuck that D:.

Later in my life years, I saw The Mummy and I felt so sorry for the guy who lost his eyes and then later got killed. I remember having trouble sleeping just imagining how terrible it would be to have to endure that.

I cant remember, but was Button Moon really sexist sometimes? The narrator always seemed to be elbow deep in double entendre. Though that pretty much sums up every british kids show.

EDIT: oh god trent what the hell ? Why? Why is that happening?

All I can remember is something AWFUL in a shed or stable or something scared the shit out of him and he gets "The Fright" which makes his hair fall out. The only cure is peanut butter but he puts too much on and he starts growing super long hair and super long pubes and stuff.

Picture that but in French and you are in an English Immersion school in Quebec trying to figure out what's going on.

I remember one of the Dot movies really upsetting me. I think it was Dot And The Kangaroo, I must have been really young at the time but I remember it really getting to me. I have no idea whether there was actually anything depressing in it but I just remember a vague feeling. It's really weird.

Oh god I almost forgot. When I was in Austin avoiding the hurricane I happened across this creepy bit of czech goodness. It is a version of Alice in Wonderland that is live action coupled with stop motion. Most of the stop motion creatures are taxidermy type things. Like the white rabbit is a dead rabbit stuffed with saw dust and when he pulls his watch out, there is saw dust covering it and he licks it off with a real animal tongue. There was also a short stop motion by the same guy on the DVD called Darkeness Light Darkness which was weird and cool for totally different reasons.

There is an infamous government public service announcement from the UK from like the 70s that ran until the early 90s about the dangers of trespassing on a farm.

A kid falls into a cesspit neck deep in farm animal shit then sinks beneath it, and they film it.

    Holy god.

Serenity that was kind of odd. But it's claymation and is most likely to be. I wondered whether they would fully build him. The glass of water bit was a bit perplexing at first. The tongue was particularly nasty.

Not so much the character models, which look like they've been dug up from somewhere, but the horrible (to me) atonal (again, to me) theme music.

    Youtube clip:
My girlfriend can't watch the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or The Wizard of Oz. I think she was also forced to watch movies like Child's Play as a young child, as the alternative was walking down the unlit corridor to her bedroom.

Ever watch Alice: Through the Looking Glass? The Jabberwocky in that scared the living shit out of me as a kid. I was also frightened of ET for a very long time, particularly when Elliot finds him in the field and he just jumps out, yelling and waving his arms.

I think that my grandfather liked scaring the shit out of me, he would show me alot of horror movies, The Shinning also scared the shit out of me.
