No standard First Person Shooters please as per the OP
you so picky
Well, looking for stuff that we might have overlooked. Plus we've already went through Halo1,2,3. The Time Splittlers, Rainbow Six etc etc etc. Looking for something more unique than someone to act as a moving respawn chamber.
Avoid Kane and Lynch. It's a game that could have been so good it hurts to play the real thing.
I wanted to love it, I truly did.
The storytelling is just so awesome that I wanted to quit every time I wasn't watching a cutscene.

How about the Tales series? Might take a bit to get going but they're long RPG's with co-op, so you could each pick a character and stick to it for the whole game. The only thing is that it might take a little bit to get the second character to play with, and that the camera is only built for one player (at least with Symphonia).
Racing
Action/adventure
Platforming
RPGs (as long as it is not hack'n'slash combat)
And you're looking for co-op.
What's your stance on the "party" genre? Stuff like minigame collections, board games, hybrids of the two (Mario Party), turn-based strategy, etc?
I'm up for those as long as they are co-op and not competitive. I think schizoid has really made us crave more games like that. We've gone through so many brawlers, hack and slashers and first person shooters that it's just not a very unique feeling anymore. We play a lot of team based competitive games like Scene It, or even stuff like bomberman, mario party and Chu Chu Rocket but it's ultimately not what I'm looking for in this thread.
I know you said you wanted shared screen for pc games, but you said your picking up Left 4 Dead so if your willing to go back a bit you can get SvenCoop (free mod)for HL1 which lets you go thru the main game co-op and also has a bunch of co-op scenarios available.
Lego _____ games all have good co-op
Kameo (not sure if this has local co-op or not)
Culdcept Saga (no story mode but you can do co-op versus.... this is kind of a stretch -_-)
Viva Pinata TiP
Overlord (only a co-op mode, but there's a few maps... probably doesn't qualify)
Have you looked at Left 4 Dead? I know it's a shooter, but four player co op zombie carnage.
Already plan on picking it up
Any feedback on Army of Two or Kane and Lynch?
army of two is actually pretty good, just don't spend too much on it
I agree. It's a rental at best, or maybe if you can find it for 10 bucks or so. Had a great time playing through in coop online. I wouldn't play it again though.
But, if you are after mere parlor tricks, you will be sorely disappointed. For if I reach behind your ear, it will not be a nickel I pull out, but your very soul!
Dude doesn't have a PS3. It's a shame too, because Pixeljunk Monsters and to a lesser extent Eden make for great co-op experiences. Army of Two was pretty obnoxious, I couldn't get through more than about 3 story missions with a friend of mine before sending it back to Gamefly. We had more fun watching each other fail miserably at the challenges in Bionic Commando.

Me and my girlfriend have been playing a bit of ObsCure for PS2 lately. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ObsCure_(video_game) It's a Resident Evil rip-off, but with 2 player same screen co-op. Pretty good actually, nice n' cheesy (like a high school horror film) and has made us both jump together which is a good sign. Think there's a sequel on the wii.
Also just bought Project Eden for PS2 (for about two quid postage paid) which apparently gets a love or hate reception from people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Eden
Meant to be a hard as fuck puzzle / action game with 4 player split screen co-op set in a Beneath a Steel Sky-esque dystopian future. Certainly sounds my cup of tea, plus you can't really argue with the price. Looking forward to giving it a whirl (although I suspect the "hard as fuck" aspect will put my girlfriend off).
Lego Batman. Shared screen co-op and I think the level design is a little better than the other Lego games. Just avoid the PS2 version, it has a bug that constantly corrupts saves. I've seen no complaints about that happening with the other versions so you should be good with any of them.

I can't tell if Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 counts as action-adventure or RPG, well, because it's both.
Gamecube/XBox versions have 4-player split screen co-op with an extra "Challenge Mode" puzzle/survival gametype. I personally attest that the amount of fun the game is grows exponentially with the number of people in your party.
Please note that the Dreamcast versions do not have the local multiplayer.

H3 especially, plus it takes up to four players.

Ah yeah, Completely forgot to mention those. Fun game and would definitely recommend it for anyone else that is reading.

Speaking of which, is there a swat 4 thread anywhere?
EDIT: I heard both were mediocre

We have, fun, mentioned in the OP, pretty standard brawler with pretty graphics IMO. Was more of a fan of the AD&D beatemups.

Otherwise... go back in time and play Sonic3&K?
Um...
Half Life 1 on PS2 has an exclusive co op campaign thats pretty fun.
I dunno.

We had one, but it kinda faded after a couple of games.
But what games!
Mercs 2 is the best co-op experience this year.
Gears of War.

It's not a first person shooter, it's a stategic 3rd person/ground level game. It has just been made free by THQ so you have no excuse to not try it.
Also Commandos 2 and 3 if you can find it
