Games with punching and/or kicking

edited December 2008 in Games and Technology
I am trying to find some video games with punching and kicking. Or just punching, or just kicking, but I consider punching to be more important than kicking. While kicking can do more damage by virtue of the power behind it, a punch is more surgical and exacting, and can have a greater effect as a result. There are also more people who make a living by punching than there are who get paid to kick.

I do not know why there are not more games with punching and kicking. It is the holy grail of entertainment which video games have yet to take full advantage of. There are many games with implied kicking and punching but a scarce few with any meaningful amount.

For example, this game:

animalcrossing2pv9.jpg

This game does not feature punching or kicking. However, there is an in-game punching bag which is non-functional, and it would be possible to design a mostly accurate kickboxer's outfit, but no actual physical joy to be had. Also your animal neighbors may mention punching or kicking at times but again this is just flavor text that is meant to tantalize without delivering.

There is also this game:

fotosimcity2000dq7.jpg

Again there is no punching or kicking, but the citizens of your city can riot! Normally a riot is a prime location to witness some punching and kicking. We can assume there is probably some punching or kicking going on at these riots but we do not get to see it, which is immensely disappointing. Learn what your target audience wants, game developers!

230pxshiningdarkness1nr9.png

This game is very good and I like it a lot but again it is lacking. Now, you can unequip all your weapons and shields and we could reasonably assume that your character is punching or kicking the enemies at this time. But we are not told if this is the case and we do not see the act taking place. This reeks of shoddy development.

unrealtournamentzq7.jpg

I could not find any punching or kicking in this game.

nintendogslabfriends200be4.jpg

None here either.

Are game developers really this out of touch?

This is the only game I can think of that has a significant amount of punching and kicking:

image051qk7.jpg

(I know this picture does not show punching or kicking but trust me it is present if you actually play the game)

Do you know of any others that can slake my thirst? Are there any mods or hacks to existing punchless/kickless games that add in these abilities?

I was on a web site the other day when I saw a game with the most excellent premise, namely that there was a "monkey" and one had to "punch" this "monkey" in order to win extravagant real-life prizes such as iPods or Nintendo Wiis. perhaps you could try your hand at one of those games?

I have heard that you can punch in this game, but is it a primary factor in the gameplay? Is it the driving force behind one's desire to boot it up? Don't get me wrong, any sort of punching is better than the definitive non-punching that is a part of most modern video games.

This sounds like it would provide an immediate thrill. Where can I find this site? Is it legal to post on these forums? Also: can I kick this monkey as well?

Viewtiful joe has dedicated punch and kick buttons.

I have not played godhand but I assume it is about punching.

Also I have not played parappa the rappa so it may be all in my mind but I think that is also about punching and kicking.

Popeye is a game that has punching, however it lacks in kicking. However, as the punching involves super charged spinach power, I believe the lack of kicking may be overlooked. Popeye is the greatest arcade game ever made, rivaled only by Ms Pacman which has neither punching nor kicking but has ghost monsters to make up for it and Captain Commando which has a baby in a robotic suit punching.

I believe Ms. Pacman to be another one of those games with implied punching and kicking. Obviously it does not have enough pixels to render a punch taking place but it is there in spirit.

Lots of punching and kicking to be had.

    And suplexing.

I recomend most of the Mario games. While there is no punching, there is the jumping upon your foes. So this would imply two times the kicking action.

This post is false as of 1996. Mario's been punchin' and kickin' since 64.

Also, in Oblivion you can punch a bear right in the face.

There's some really amazingly genre defining stuff coming out in the arcades recently, especially from Japan.

I've heard the press are already onto this though, saying it promotes racism and racial stereotypes, as well as encouraging brawling in the streets and shouting after every special attack.

Hulk Ultimate destruction let's you elbow drop ten thousand stories onto anything you want, and you will hit like a meteor with giant splash damage when you do so.

It also lets you punch a tank flat and surf it down a street. This is not precisely punching, per se, but you can in fact kick the tank afterwards at a helicopter if you so wish.

Other things you may kick and or punch in this game include: kicking helicopters at other helicopters, giant mechs, pieces of giant mechs, cars, buses, telephone poles, people, buildings.

There are, for example, minigames where the objective is to drop kick cars in between goal posts.

I believe this game has a lot of punching and kicking and may in fact be right up your alley.

    Also Godhand as well.
