Legalisation doesn't really help people in that situation - only much stronger laws about human trafficking and much better enforcement can help them.

Yep. Ideally, (unlicensed) prostitution itself should be a misdemeanor while soliciting an (unlicensed) prostitute or profiting off of somebody else's (unlicensed) prostitution should be a felony, and law enforcement should focus on catching the johns, pimps, and kidnappers without ruining the lives of the prostitutes themselves.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the earlier pages, but I felt I had to jump in and give an observation.

Up until the first of January of 2009 buying sex had been legal in Norway. Last year the goverment enacted a ban that made it illegal to buy, Not sell sex. This was after around 30 years of legalized prostitution. In no time during those 30 years did the stigma of prostitution lessen, whore is still an insult as it ever was. As for being an John? Not a lot of men are going to admit to being that. Ever.

Kinda weird tho, one day you could buy sex and the next the same act would land you a hefty fine(or jail). All decided by an arbitratry date.

I'm in favor of legalization. I'm pretty sure the stigmatization will lessen with cultural liberalization, but I dunno.

Same here. I feel that America is very sexually immature.

30 years can be a long time or a short time in sociological terms. I'd give it a couple generations to see how accepted it becomes - most people who grow up with prostitution being illegal and considered dirty and wrong aren't going to change their fundamental beliefs about it no matter what the law says. Kids who grow up with it being legal might have a different view once they reach adulthood.

Why would this even be necessary? Adults engaged in casual sex aren't required to have themselves tested, and neither are employees of the porn industry as far as I know (and I don't know very far). And, you're assuming that a prostitute, whether male or female, would have to seek work at a brothel rather than be self-employed.

The testing of prostitutes should be the responsibility of the governing body. The testing of Johns/Janes should be the responsibility of the prostitute.
You are completely wrong about the porn industry testing status. They are tested to hell and back, won't touch somebody who isn't tested and all this is industry standard.

    Self-imposed requirements, my friend.

There are some porn studies that simply don't do this.

All the valley studios do that shit. Because they know that if they have another HIV spread that California is going to impose it on them, and not be nice about it.

I don't have a problem with self imposed regulation if it's actually successful, which it is in the "mainstream" porn industry.

    that's putting it lightly.

We're apparently very mature when it comes to excessively graphic violence, however, so it all balances out.

Living in Sweden was like entering bizzaro world as far as attitudes toward sex go.

and it was so much more healthy for society.

I don't know if "mature" is quite the word I would use...
