Hello and welcome to this Let’s Play of Penumbra: Overture/Black Plague
Horror LP number 5 eh? Not even Kruger could scare me at this point…unless he was a spider. And it’s dark. And all I have is a crap hammer.
Penumbra: Overture was suggested by a few people in the Dead Space thread and even from the first part I have recorded, seems dead scary.
It’s very tense and the main character is weak. The flashlight/torch flickering and buzzing genuinely made me scared at that point.
I think I’m going to love this.
Shall we Wiki steal?
Although Frictional Games describes Penumbra: Overture as a first-person adventure, the game blends the genres of survival horror, first-person shooter, and adventure. The use of Newton Game Dynamics emphasizes physics-based puzzles similar to those in Half-Life 2 as well as physics-based combat. The game also takes advantage of advanced artificial intelligence to respond realistically to noises and light, creating stealth-based gameplay.
There are no firearms in the game, so during combat the player is limited to improvised melee fighting with a pickaxe, or throwing objects at attacking creatures. The game is designed to emphasize stealth and avoidance over direct conflict. (For example, Philip can close doors behind him to temporarily hold off attacking enemies.)
The game's main focus is on exploration and classic adventure game object interaction: examining and collecting objects and using them to solve puzzles.

Gonna watch this right now.
Going to be following this.
I remembered the tech demo having some dodgy acting and bizarre plot, and it seems this might go the same way.. still, should provide plenty of entertainment. I absolutely loved how tactile the interaction felt (just pulling doors open and stuff felt really weighty) though, and even this one was suitably tense as you flaut the blatant instruction to TURN THE LIGHT OFF and not get chomped by monsters.
Also, you terrified me by consistently keeping the flashlight on! I was so ready for you to be attacked! Never played this, so very much looking forward to following it
Maybe like, a sound capture card or something? So we can actually hear all the creepy little sounds and stuff? I don't know
Also, don't read the text out loud, it's annoying

Will you also be doing Black Plague and Requiem?
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
Never did get around to Requiem, heard it got so-so reviews. Anybody here give it a try?
Edit: I am now reminded of just how extremely fucked-up Black Plague got.
Bring me a saw."
Now playing: Teardown and Baldur's Gate 3 (co-op)
Sunday Spotlight: Horror Tales: The Wine
He could unmute the stereo mix if it is muted and the recording program should pick up the game audio.
As long as we can hear it and it doesn't sound like he's just holding his microphone up to his speakers
I mean the game looks like it would be superbly creepy if we had decent sound quality

Sound levels need to be fixed though as said earlier - the game doesn't make a lot of noise, but when it does we need to be hearing it. Don't read the stuff aloud either - it's flow-breaking. Read it yourself, but limit it to a few seconds a page in the video - that way if we want to read it, we can pause the LP ourselves.
And for gameplay:
1. Glowstick is hotkeyed to G. Notice how quickly you went through batteries? Get used to using the glowstick a lot more ... you'll want the highbeams for later on.
2. Hammer isn't going to save you.
3. Stock up on Depends. :P

I did think it was pretty funny that you were crouch-walking for stealth....with your flashlight out pointing at everything, though. :P
I also quite enjoy the fact that the main character shares my name.
I do have a thing for getting into life threatening situations in old mines.
Sweet.

I'll stop the reading then as well.

I don't mind stuff being read myself for the viewer. A suitable compromise though could be limiting what's read out loud to anything that adds to the backstory or sounds really crazy.
Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
So under-appreciated.
hell brings the goods
Looking forward to watching this!
Oh don't worry, I'm sure his first encounter with an opponent will be ... interesting. :winky:
Also, glowstick never runs out, so the LP won't be done in pitch black - just a small radius of green, that only lights the area near enough so that the blood-red eyes in the distance can catch sight of you ...
