If I pay for a month, would that open up all the content for me forever?

I really want to make a damn Monk, but I don't know if I'll be able to play him when the sub ends or not. Also, I've heard you can't really level up all that much without getting VIP. Does anyone know if this is the case?

No, it would unlock it for a month. Dur? o_O

So I would be better off buying the monk class then?

I kind of want a situation where I can have stuff forever, and not just on a month-to-month basis, especially when it comes to classes.
You just have to ask yourself the real deep questions then because only manly bad dudes can be monks.

Are you a bad enough dude to be a monk?

My old trial account monk was a dwarf with a pony tail, mutton chops, and an eyepatch.

I think I am a bad enough dude.

Ok i just noticed something when i went into my turbine account. I have two subscriptions, one of them is my old one from back in 06 (im not paying for it anymore.) but its green and says "premium" what does that mean? Do i automatically get premium for putchasing the game way back when?

It says it expires in may 2010.

Edit: Just logged into said premium account and i dont really see much different from the free one. All the things are still locked, i have more characters slots (who cares.) but thats the only difference i see.

    Well, according to the forums:
It looks like some people's combination of IP address and other values are tripping up our anti-fraud/anti-gold farmer filters. Virgin Media in particular appears to be a problem ISP. We're looking into the issue and appreciate everyone's patience.

So I guess that explains some of the account problems...

Yeah, I'm definitly going to unlock the monk also. If you go VIP you get 500 turbine points a month.

So you could VIP up for a month, save the points, and buy the monk unlock at the end of your subscription.

Premium gives you some advantages over F2P, but not nearly as much as a VIP gets. You can see the full comparison here:
    http://www.ddo.com/vip

As it says, if you ever purchase any points, that will change your account to Premium. If you've ever been or ever are VIP (subscription), your account will also be a Premium if you end your subscription.

I've got 500 points that Turbine gifted me for being in the Unlimited beta, plus 50 I grabbed just doing a few quests.

I'm not in a hurry to grab monk or favored soul, nor am I worried much about warforged or drow.

I'll likely be buying more character slots.

I think Monk is really the only one I want. I might pick up warforged eventually, but it's nowhere near a priority.

I can also only think I'd want to make a Cleric, a Paladin, and a Monk and I really don't see much need for more slots. A one time point purchase puts me into premium territory with 4 available.

Edit: Now if they implemented Druids. I'd buy that puppy in a heartbeat.

You get 50 turbine points for getting one of your characters to 5 favor on each server. This basically amounts to doing the tutorial and 2-3 of the korthos town quests.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I am so taking advantage of it.

Its only for the general shout chat. It's just to prevent gold farmers from making free accounts and spamming the chat like they do in other games.

You can't move the character (at least not for free) but if you sign on to Cannith, you can make a character there also.

The 2 character limit imposed on free accounts is a per-server limit.

Handwraps equip to both hands, so they function more like a two handed weapon in terms of slots. It doesn't feel right, but that's how they implemented them.

+1 weapons also add +1 to hit... the 1d4 fire damage weapons I don't know if they always do. I'm not sure.

Also, that fire (or whatever element) damage may be wasted on critters that are immune, whereas most are not immune to bonus damage.
