And architects really don't get paid that much until later on, and even then you have gobs of bitch work or are a principle and so basically just do administrative stuff. Might as well have more fun getting to the upper echelons where the good pay is, and librarians make a good buck. I'm not going to get rich, but I wasn't going to be the next Renzo Piano anyway so its not like that's really changed either way.
