The whistling thing has reminded me of one: I got into Air because kottke linked this, which includes ‘Alpha Beta Gaga’. I don’t recall how I began reading kottke, though.
I got into Rilo Kiley because I encountered Good Weather for Airstrikes’ list of the best 50 music videos for... 2005? 2004? and shared their ‘Portions for Foxes’ video with my friend, who then got the album and fed back to me.
The Elected because I heard about Sun, Sun, Sun on the NPR and they’re associated with Rilo Kiley. Same with Jenny Lewis’ Rabbit Fur Coat.
Jenny Lewis led to me getting the Watson Twins’ album.
The Album Leaf due to a friend who believed he hated any music that wasn’t at least slightly unusual.
Sigur Rós because of Jon Hicks’ recommendation, I think.
Sigue Sigue Sputnik because an unusual fellow I attended college with liked them.
Feist also because of Good Weather for Airstrikes, which featured ‘Mushaboom’.
The Flaming Lips and Bright Eyes and Death from Above 1979 (and probably some more I’ve forgotten) because this dude used to do a thing where he’d share a track every so often.
Jenny Lewis was in Troop Beverly Hills with Craig T. Nelson
Craig T. Nelson was in Where the Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray
Bill Murray was in Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin
Steve Martin was in Planes, Trains & Automobiles with Kevin Bacon

Is there a thing that generates these lists, or should I be scared of your brain?

Mostly IMDb, but I do have to sort and guide it all.
Well, that settles it. Res has the avian-swine-SARS.

The funniest effect is the Lake Wobegon effect.
Above-average effect: “for nearly any subjective and
socially desirable dimension...most people see
themselves as better than average.” (Myers, 1998, p.
440)
e.g., 89% of nearly 1 million high school seniors in the
College Board Survey (1976-77) rated themselves as
above average on the ability to get along with others
Lake Wobegon: “All the women are strong, all the men
are good-looking, and all the children are aboveaverage.”
Cos like you are all totally above average at avoiding cognitive distortions n shit right? No.
Shit I, personally, am probably worse at times, since I think I know what to watch for. Deluding myself.

I might resort to killing a man if Intel would stop designing their heat sinks in such a way as to inspire blind rage whenever one attempts to install one.
Honestly I feel like the processor is being pulverized as I push the stupid thing down. It won't go in!
I really wish I could remember how I ended up on these forums. I think it’s something like the following:
1. I decide to look around Usenet.
2. I subscribe to alt.binaries.hacking.beginner because I’m a teenager and that sounds cool.
3. The FAQ or a post leads me to read GPF.
4. I’m somehow linked to Penny Arcade? This is the part I’m not sure of.
5. I browse the forums. Registration is closed.
6. I see a link to Flying Stove, join there, and participate until PA forum registration is re-opened.
7. Join here.
8. Post in both D&D and SE++, but gradually settle in the chat thread.

I think that does mean that.
My new Core 2 Duo is running very fine, as evidenced by the fact that I am posting this post on this post board.

I found PA through the link on slashdot. I forget how I ended up in the forums, I think I lurked the pit of hate for a while, and then after the great shut down and reopening created an account to post in EE right before it became D&D
Hakk: Write it down in acronym form. Just the main points. Don't try to remember everything.
it's just...such bullshit. There is a cumulative part and a part that is only stuff from the last exam. Except the stuff from the last exam has at LEAST 75+ more than the last exam had, AND these artists are much lesser known
And modern art is so much more difficult to retain and understand

I wish I remembered something about that game so I could make a witty reference.

It's pretty wasteful but leads to some pretty surreal stuff.
Could I have better spent my money? Absolutely. But these Laserdisc jackets are bitching and GY!BE is hard to come by for cheap.

In fact, I often just listen to the Rilo Kiley Pandora station on my blackberry instead of my own music collection.
