No, dying really did not hurt as much as you had expected it to. Curious. In fact… in fact, it almost seemed as if death was releasing something trapped within you.
As the light surrounded you, you felt a sensation of being lifted upwards. You could not see where to; the only thing that remained in your vision was the white light that was beginning to sear your eyes. You tried moving your hands, and they felt as if they were far away – but at the same time, they felt lighter, faster, stronger.
The light dragged you upwards, seemingly interminably.
As you proceeded on your ascent, you became aware of others with you. You could not see them, of course; the light still consumed your sight. But their presence began to make you feel uneasy, and eventually – after an unknowable length of time spent drifting in the light - that unease turned into rage. The others accompanying you also began to exhibit this anger – no doubt the bizarreness of the situation you found yourselves in exacerbating the emotion – and in the heat of your rage you reached out, found something grasped within what you could only assume were your hands, and tore it to pieces.
You could hear the screams, but the light blocked out the horrors you were no doubt committing.

And then you awoke, to a melancholy scene. Before you lay a vast grey desert; the sky above blackened, with only occasional flashes of navy blue to offset the darkness. In the distance, a skeletal hyena seemed to be scavenging for scraps of… something.
Twenty-nine others surrounded you, all seeming equally confused and dazed. The question on everyone’s mind was obvious, yet nobody dared speak it; are we dead?
YES, YOU ARE, replied a voice that was less a sound and more a fact of nature.
