So I got my rear speakers working again. They are 4.1 Altec lansing ones. Whatever were the expensive ones on the Dell site at the time we bought the computer.
This thread is for talking about speakers, sound systems stuff like that.
So my speakers are pretty nice, my back ones weren't working because I forgot to turn it back to surround sound on the computer. It's pretty nice to play Doom 3 or System Shock 2 with surround sound on, becomes ten time more scary. They put out pretty nice too. I keep it less than halfway up and you can hear it across the house. If I turn it up all the way, it starts to shake.
I'm using a bunch of unmatching crap that I've accumulated through the years. It sounds pretty bitchin' once it runs through my mixing board, and I use my bass amp as a sub.
For ghetto crap, it's not half as bad as it could be.
I wanna get a new set of speakers since mine are kinda beat up. Maybe one of those nice subwoofers you can attach to your chair or your floor.
And a new soundcard. One of those XFI ones they had at PAX. Although that'll be when I get a new computer. Because this one doesn't have a PCI-E slot.
I wouldn't mind something new and internal for my main sound. I'm using the M-Audio Audiophile USB as my audio-out device, but I'd like something else to back that up. I only want to use the Audiophile for my recording needs.

Creative sound cards are pretty good from my experience. All the computers I've ever had have had Sound Blaster 5.1s they are pieces of shit but are better than onboard sound.
Though I've used some computers with Audigys and XFI sound cards and I have to say it was phenomenal compared to mine.
hey should i get a dedicated sound card for my new computer
If you are looking at upgrading to Vista I wouldn't bother at this point. With Vista, microsoft changed around how dedicated hardware has to work. It's made the creative drivers somewhat junk at this point (they just recently released an official driver). To do proper hardware accelerated gaming the game needs to use openAL which is getting more common now. I'd wait a while and see what the other companies are coming up with.
If you want a non gaming, higher quality soundcard just PM me and I can give you some suggestions for your budget/setup.
Man you guys need to get a set of Sennheiser 595 headphones.
And an X-fi
And a headphone amp.
It is fantastic.
Daaamn those are expensive for a set of headphones. They are probably worth it. Mine are some 30 dollar sony crap. I think they might be blown too, since everything on them sounds so muddled together compared to on my computer.

They aren't so bad. My HD650s are about $350USD if you find the right deal. The amp for them was $300USD.

also I can only keep it less than halfway up when I'm with her
I knew that someone would say this.
That is why I posted the above.
Guys
About my cock
Does it have a volume knob?
god
you're like the kid that will eat anything on a dare
It goes all the way up to eleven.
If I cared about speakers I would all kinds of post in it.
I knew he was fucking around.
I did it to spite him.
Besides, anythread can become a good thread in time.
It's been a while since we've had a talk shit about Uriel thread. How about that?
alright this is true
i've seen some really bad threads turn around with some loving care

it's a valid topic, shut your face
oh goodness me
what are people on their rag today
jesus
no, i just want to read about speakers!
WHO'S THAT POKEMOD?
IT'S ORI!!!
liar
nobody can hear
i guess but all over the place today people are giving me shit
makes me wonder if i'm doing something wrong
but then i remember i am a self-righteous prick so i just blame them
right, i forgot this is a forum for deaf people
pretty inappropriate place for a speaker thread!
The XFI doesn't use PCI-E so you can go ahead and get one now. The new XFI using PCI-E is on it's way, but knowing creative will take a while.
Oh really? Cool.
I need to replace this SB live 5.1 dell version POS.
I ate a pinecone for ten dollars once. Deal with it.

Yes you should. Onboard sound is terrible if you have decent speakers or headphones.

ok ok. The 701s are great.. but I'm partial to the senn sound.
sennys are almost always worth it.
i have their earbuds and they are wonderful.
