Any suggestions? They don't have to be good so much as entertaining (we are going to be in an altered state). Movies for kids are just fine.
Some that we've seen and enjoyed: Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter, The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Bridge to Terabithia, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars
Some we've seen and not enjoyed: Inkheart, Nim's Island, King Arthur, The Seeker (was almost so bad it was good)

Don't let the rather mundane title fool you. It's being rated as the modern-day incarnation of Princess Bride. And it's fantastic.

Let's not go crazy. It is a good movie though.
Also, Pirates of the Caribbean. Certainly the first movie, the second and third are hit or miss.
How about Labyrinth? Is that any good?
You may have had to grow up with it, but it does have David Bowie in it, which instantly qualifies it as good for me.
Do... Re... Mi... So... Fa.... Do... Re.... Do...
Forget it...
Legend
seconding Willow

Man... all my movies are old. But they hold up well
Yeah, you really do have to had grown up with it. I showed it to my wife, who had never seen it, telling her what a great movie it was. She hated it. It didn't help that I started singing the baby magic song.

Neverwhere (BBC mini-series)
Time Bandits
The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen
It's a great film but I'm not sure that it's fun.
I'd second Willow that people have already recommended and I kind of think Labyrinth holds up ok if you haven't seen in and you're in the correct state of mind.
EDIT:And how about Dark Crystal, Conan, Jason and the Argonauts, Beastmaster, Krull.
Mored Editing: Brotherhood of the Wolf is fantastic, a bit gritty but I'd still lump it in as fantasy.
Van Helsing, you either love it or hate it but you should love it really.
Do Big Trouble in Little China or Flash Gordon count?
Erik the Viking and Baron Munchausen (sp?) are also pretty silly.

(I think Coroline will be the same way in the future - a whole generation of kids saying "THEY HAD BUTTON FOR EYES WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING SHOWING ME THIS!?!?!)
I also showed my wife Labyrinth for the first time as an adult , she was ok with it but I don't think it will be on regular rotation in our house.
I will cautiously recommend mirrormask as well, however both my wife and mother have absolutely zero love for it.

Also if you've ever liked / read the Terry Pratchet novels, there's a fairly decent Color of Magic movie.
3DS FC: 4699-5714-8940 Playing Pokemon, add me! Ho, SATAN!
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! is good. Amazingly, people have recommended every single other movie that I was going to say.
Krull
Time Bandits
Dark Crystal
Labryinth
Colour of Magic
The Dark Crystal
Indiana Jones Movies (except the lst one)
Willow
That might just be subjective. I worked with a guy who was literally terrified of the film. Growing up with it didn't help, apparently.
If you're gonna put Colour of Magic you might as well add Hogfather.
Is Colour of Magic the one with Samwise in it? That's much better.
I got all upset when you said "except the last one" then I realized you were talking about Crystal Skull and not Last Crusade. That's how old I am, and yes, Crystal Skull is terrible. Remove LaDouche and it's bearable.
I never saw the entirety of the Hogfather
I'm gonna drop in Masters of the Universe and Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness.
Army of Darkness is pretty much Lord of the Rings 2 directed by the 3 stooges.
Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Neverending Story
Mononoke Hime
Howl's Moving Castle
Colour of Magic
Ladyhawke
The Secret of Nimh
The Last Starfighter
The Last Unicorn
A Flight of Dragons
Hmm, I'm having trouble thinking of ones that haven't been said...
Why?
Some other, excellent, suggestions have been made in this thread as well.
I easily enjoyed Crystal Skull enough to recommend it. It's a tremendously fun film all the way through, and it holds up well to repeated viewings.
Eh I don't know about Outlander. If it had been made in the 90's and I could have had nostalgia for it then maybe I would like it and recommend it

haha, well for me my brothers girlfriend did some makeup work (and blood spraying) for the movie. We were talking about work and she said she worked on a movie just recently and it was a bad B movie with Aliens and Vikings. When it hit the video store (not sure if it got a theatre run) I picked it up and was pleasantly surprised.
2001: A Space Odyssey is probably good if you're looking for trippy. It's pretty trippy even without the "altered state".
edit: OOH. If you can find it somehow, The Flight of Dragons. So good.
On the plus side, it doesn't even come close to the badness that was 'Thor:Hammer of the Gods'; a made for tv movie from earlier this year.
If you haven't seen it and you like watching funny bad movies, it's too bad to be enjoyable but does have the most hilarious werewolves ever.
Oh yeah it's Thor versus werewolves and Thor is played by Brad from Home Improvement. Make of that what you will.
