also pods because i don't have vermouth i have been making my "manhattans" with rye or bourbon, lillet and orange bitters. i also made some brandied cherries, so I use one of those too.
not exactly a manhattan but honestly a pretty great drink.

Good luck with the peychaud's bitters. I had to venture deep into Queen's to pick up mine at some caribbean spice market. It's totally worth it, though -- the sazerac is my favorite cocktail at the moment. Thomas Handy 129 proof rye is the best - THE BEST -- for it by far. For vermouth, if you're sticking to the basics, go Noilly Prat for dry and Martini or Cinzano for sweet. St. Germaine should be pretty widely distributed, I don't think I've had a problem finding it in NYC. I have not tried absolut boston vodka because I do not try vodkas. I like my vodka to be gin.

i also need to find a properly fancy liquor store. the sav-mor across the street from my house has a surprisingly good selection for what looks like a scary industrial-sector dive but they were out of st germaine and only had two kinds of rye.

Have you gone to any other University/College previously? Look to find out if they have Distance Learning or online versions of their courses (or do this for any local University).
