i just woke up and this is the first thing i see on the news
poland's politics is gonna be a mess in the coming months i guess
Their Constitution calls for some pretty quick elections and they started putting it all in motion they day of the crash. It will be rough but hopefully the government will stabilize quickly with it.

If a plane full of such high leveled American government officials peopled be shitting assassination plot speculation left and right.
Except one could make a Polish pilot joke and explain this away by saying he was going "brrrrrooooommmmmm" instead of actually throttling the engine which lead to the crash.
I am surprised they had that many high ranking officials all on one poorly maintained plane.
I think the planes were maintained as well as they could've been given the circumstances. This particular TU-154 was one of the youngest/newest of the planes built by the Soviets before they went out of production (around 20 years old I think).
And whilst that's not brand-spanking new, I'd imagine it's been retro-fitted with newer parts over the years. I'm pretty sure the two current Air Force One aircraft are similar in age (though the design and technology is no-doubt newer).
Plus, it's pretty hard for politicians there to splurge on such frivolous things as jets without drawing mass disapproval from the populace/opposition... I believe they were due to replace the aircraft pretty soon anyway. Shame they didn't do it sooner.
Also also, I do believe they have protocols in place to prevent the PM and President from both travelling on the same plane together, not sure about any other specifics though. These were sort of "special circumstances" in the sense that they were flying to attend a memorial service, but it's still a little puzzling as to why so many heads of state were on the same flight.
tl;dr. pretty shitty news for Poland, I'm genuinely disappointed for them
To commemorate the loss of so many precious Poles I am going to be updating my Medieval II: Total War playthrough.
I was secretly planning on doing this sometime this coming week, but I'm letting this cat out of the bag in honor of this tragedy. I can think of no better tribute to the dead than to have my tiny virtual Poles mouth-fuck Europe into submission.

I don't think that splitting up the highest ranking officials on seperate planes is 'splurging.'
It's to prevent scenarios just like this from happening. You don't exactly want to lose half your highest ranking officials because some goose got stuck in your tailpipe.

Jesus. 6 Attempts and still tried again? He should have been redirected to another airport, not '7th time's a charm!'
Edit: Oh, apparently he was. But the pilot disregarded it and went ahead anyway.
Money says the President wouldn't let them go to another airport because all the reporters were at the one they tried to land at. The whole thing was going to be a HUGE photo op for Russian and Polish leaders.

If this ends up being the case, maybe Poland is better off.

The new legislation, signed off six months ago and due to be implemented on Tuesday, amends an existing order from 1969 to prevent infiltration into the country.
The military policy now stipulates that all Palestinians in the occupied West Banknot carrying what Israel deems a valid identity card can be classified as "infiltrators", and as such, could face deportation or up to seven years in prison.
The Israeli military order does not specify what would be accepted as valid identification.
Here is when I start to get very fucking angry again.

Sure, you are kicking ass now. But eventually the lightbulb will be invented, and all of your military spending will have to go to screwing one in.
You might find this relevant to your interests.
Its release date explains why I've never heard of it. I would buy that game, but my video card can't handle it.

For a moment I thought you meant Putin's twin and that's terrifying.
He looks like a dude who would be up for some doppelganger double team punching action.
if putin had a twin he'd be twice as awesome

There's joke potential if the right comedian gets at it.
"How many Poles does it take to land an airplane?"
this is gonna go over well
I've been trying to come up with a good punchline for this joke for two days now
but no matter what punchline I put on afterward it always seems to drive it straight into the ground
missed the landing strip with that one
