I hate that most people just stand on an escalator. Come on people just cause the stairs are moving doesn't mean you can't walk up them too.
Proper etiquette is to stand on the right to let people walk up the left.
I've seen that with automated walkways but never on an escalator.
It's an explicit rule in the underground stations, and it's spread to become a sort of unwritten thing on other escalators. People still block off the path, but they'll move to the right if they notice you instead of just giving you dirty looks.
