This course focuses on introducing students to the core concepts of programming computers that have no other software layers but an operating system. The UNIX operating system is used as the classical and most popular one. Students learn the C programming language and are exposed to some key POSIX APIs to support designing and writing programs in a portable, maintainable fashion. Apart from theoretically learning these concepts at lectures, the students will do a large number of practical exercises and a smaller number of practical assignments.
sounds terrifying
and plus, it's in semester 2 and so is the other class for C so I'd be taking seven classes then instead of in semester 1

The requirements are Intro to Programming 1, Intro to Programming 2 and Soft Engineering Project 1 (Ie, simple enough java classes that I got 2 As and a B in) but still, it sounds scary.

Students must have moderate knowledge of programming to register for this module. The level of knowledge is that which student's achieve in passing COMP10010, COMP10020, and COMP10050. Students who have attended these three modules must have passed all of them to attend this module. Students who have not attended any one of these modules must obtain the permission of the lecturer to attend this module by showing appropriate competence.
It is strongly recommended that students take and pass COMP10010, COMP10020, and COMP10050 in the first year before taking this module. It is strongly recommended that students take and pass COMP20010 (Data Structures and Algorithms I) in the first semester, and take COMP20040 (Data Structures and Algorithms II) and COMP20050 (Software Engineering Project 2) concurrently with this module.
