I never got into Idol, but I DID watch a portion of season 2, because I liked Aiken's voice. I was disappointed that Ruben won, especially with how high-quality Aiken's final song (Bridge Over Troubled Waters) was (the final note gave me chills up my spine).
But I didn't watch any of the early part of that season, or any season before or since. I just liked his voice, I guess.
Oh, I lied... I'll also usually watched the Bloopers (the REALLY REALLY bad auditions) if I catch it, just to get a laugh at the idiots.
And yeah, Simon is dead-on. A lot of people say he's mean, but that's not true, he's just brutally honest, and rightly so. The evidence? When someone is good, he says it, and he will glowingly praise someone for a great performance. He just won't kiss ass when someone is very bad.
The sheer inuendo when she was on SMTV was the only reason I watched that show.
Wonkey Donkey was hilarious. Plus Chums was great. Man, that show was destroying everything else on a Saturday, it had millions of viewers. The best parts were when they knew they had said something incredibly suggestive, but all the kids had no idea what it could mean and they are just cracking up in fits of laughter, as are the crew and noone else knows.
Why would you spend time watcing American Idol when there are a metric ton of awesome shows out right now? (Heroes, Man vs. Wild, Ace of Cakes, House, Bones, Smallville, How I Met Your Mother, Tudors, Work Out, BSG, etc etc)
Yeah, I watch a ton of tv.
EDIT: Oh man, can't write awesome shows list without the whole Thursday Night NBC block. Seriously, 30 Rock and the Office are the funniest things on tv.
The thing about american idol, is that all the 'bad auditions' are actually actors.
And all those 'undiscovered idols' go through a series of off screen auditions and have to already have a recording contract before they show up to American idol.
That's not how it works.
They do go through tons of off screen auditions, but they don't have to have a recording contract. They sign an exclusivity contract with the production though, so they can't do shit without the approval of Fox.

I dont own a TV (so I dont have to pay for a TV license as a student, which is a fucking lifesaver) and I watch all of my TV over the internet, believe it or not.
American TV shits all over British TV at the moment. The only decent show here is Have I got News for You, which they BBC actually puts on youtube itself right after.
Fucking BBC rules.
The trifecta of Heroes, House and Lost keeps me going week in week out. Coupled with a smattering of Scrubs, My Name is Earl and HIGNFY is perfect.
I'm not surprised America has better television than Great Britian, just like I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised if it turned out the Brits have better literature.

You could grow and herb garden and buy a dog that looks sort of like a cow. It'd be more productive.
I remember really liking Harvest Moon DX or whatever they called the Gameboy Color version.

Only instead of planting crops and raising farm animals, you can harvest magic and raise monsters.
