It's that time again. Woot-off

It's that time again, folks. Hasn't been very long since the last one, but so it goes.

What is Woot and who's behind it?
Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. It started as an employee-store slash market-testing type of place for an electronics distributor, but it's taken on a life of its own. We anticipate profitability by 2043 – by then we should be retired; someone smarter might take over and jack up the prices. Until then, we're still the lovable scamps we've always been. But don't take our word for it: see what the online community has to say at this Wikipedia article.

I see some orange flashing lights on the main page – what do they mean?
No, you aren't seeing a side effect from your allergy medication. You have found a Woot-Off, a short term frenzied mutation of our product posting procedure. In Woot-Off mode, a new product is launched immediately after the sellout of the previous deal. There is a half-Woot-life of 12 hours maximum on any product within a Woot-Off that does not sell out. The number of Woot-Off items, sequence, and quantity will not be announced. When Woot-Off mode is over, the orange lights will disappear and our normal schedule will resume. Depending on its success, this may be a mode we would go into once or twice a month for a relatively short duration of time (24-72 hours generally.)

So what do you do?

Well, you could watch the front page, found at http://www.woot.com/, or you could use one of many Woot-off checkers to try to keep the main site moving at a sane pace when you find something you actually want.

Want to know if you missed something earlier? Look here

Aside from that, go nuts and look for some Blinged out Cabbage.

Yeah, the TV is going to last forever. But you know what? For that price, I may just measure out my entertainment center to see what I can fit. It's probably too big, though.

I got a thermos bar drink cooler, a camcorder case, a few keychains, two CD players with FM radio and remotes, and a red lacy thong that I gave to a friend of mine (it was the wootoff right before Valentine's Day :P)

Usually bandoleer o' carrots is crap, as the name would imply. Most people get a desk organizer pucks or two, maybe a flying monkey (which were $50 on ebay for awahile!!) Someone always gets something neat though, like a Wii or nice DVD player.

I'm a big fan of the copperhead. If they happen to put one up again, try to grab it, as it is an excellent mouse! I would love to get a bag of crap this time, as the one I got last time was pretty spiffy [and definitely worth more than 6 dollars].

What is it about Woot that makes me consider buying everything they put up?

If they put up "Used Hypodermic Needle" I would read the description before determining I don't need it.

This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert, and burn your label—anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

I'd buy it for that alone, if I lived in the U.S. The price seems like obscenely good value for what you're getting.

I got what looks like a digital camcorder case (which I use for my DS/PSP stuff now), an insulated beverage mug, two mini ballpoint pens and what appeared to be a CD press kit for some brand of prescription medication. When they say "whatever they have lying around the warehouse," they're not kidding!

I got a sweet Roboraptor for my Secret Santa from a Woot-off last year, and I got one of those USB dongles that lets you attach game consoles to your PC, although mine doesn't work (I blame the PC). Just a few weeks ago my friend bought an off-brand GPS setup from Woot for about $140 that he said is great.
