Sandshrew is unaffected by the attack, but the crowd doesn't really seem to care as furious applause erupts for the emergence of Meowth! Elliot Tehm's stress is reduced to 5, and Sandshrew's attacks are reduced by 1 for the rest of the turn.
Also, I picked a bad stress thing for the pokemon I picked.
Lucedes: also remember this whole system is mostly untested, so I am noting all feedback and will be looking at improving the system after the tournament.
Meowth's bonus power: Feint Attack: You do not suffer negative effects from making an unsuccessful attack and your opponent never benefits from you making an unsuccessful attack.
So is Lucedes's other attack come into effect now--or did it already come into effect? Basically, was Meowth at 1/7 stress before, and then Payday, and now it's Lucedes's turn, or did Meowth do the payday, Lucedes's Sandshrew hit twice for 3, and now it's my turn again?
edit: and as for question 2, are we counting weedle's poison? If so, if it's option 1, sandshrew's about to take his second poison tick? Or is it option 2, and it's my turn again, and sandshrew has 1 stress?
I'll rule that we won't count weedle's poison, as it's too much backtracking, but I'll let meowth have his turn he missed after throwdown. That means meowth's turn you just did happened before sandshrew's attacks and now you get to act again. After that we're back to normal.
The audience cheers on the plucky Meowth who (as I understand it) has 3 stress left. Elliot Tehm's stress is reduced to 4, and Sandshrew's attacks are reduced by 1.
:^: Egos, I'm glad it was caught--I almost named him Setzer instead. The thing is that both of us have a 50% chance of doing damage every time we're rolling these dice. It's just that we're never actually doing it.
That damage is 2 because of the -1 for being over stress. Sandshrew's at 2 stress, Elliot is knocked back to 5, and Casanova is sitting pretty as he always does!
"Oh, no! Sandshrew!" Nice Trainer looks slightly unsettled and quite concerned.
She perks up and starts paying attention to the match again.
"Keep trying your best! Rapid Spin, Sandshrew!"

It's time for a real stray cat. It's up to you, Casanova!"
Casanova the Meowth strikes a pose and attacks with Payday!
The roll goes par for the course.

4-1-1 = 2, which is still less than 5. :P

"Sandshrew, just keep doing your best!"
Sandshrew kicks yet more sand at elliot tehm's pokemon. A trend is beginning to emerge...
more sand attacks! always more sand attacks.: 1d6 2
It does nothing! The crowd cheers for Casanova! Nice Trainer pouts.
Wait, now neither of them can get hurt by the stage. Oy, we'll be here forever with their rolls haha.

I think the next annual CF Pokemon Tournament might get here before we finish this match...

Who can taze when Casanova is around?
"All RIGHT! Get on with it, Sandshrew! GIGA POWER SMASH!"
Of course, Sandshrew really only knows two attacks. None are remotely close to that. It is confused.
"Just... more sand! MORE SAND! THE MOST SAND!"
Sandshrew seems to get it, and redoubles his efforts.
A truly pitiful amount of sand hits the Meowth. It looks mildly inconvenienced.
Sand Attack + Follow Through! Boogaloo!: 2d6 = 4,1
1 more stress to Casanova, bringing it up to 5.
Sand Attack and Defense Curl both trigger.
Nice Trainer takes stress again: 1d6 6.
...
bringing her up to 8 stress. Out of sheer rage and frustration, she pulls out a cigarette and sits down.
"Just... just do whatever you want, Sandshrew, I really don't care any more."
Sorry everybody--I promise to try and be more interesting when defenses aren't 5!
Meowth paydays
Elliot's stress is down to 3. God save his boring soul.
She smokes, staring disconsolately at her sandals, ignoring the match.
Sand... Endless Sand...: 1d6 3
Meowth stops playing the crowd and leaps upon sandshrew with powerful agility, using break defense and Fury Swipes!
Soulsucking Special Attacks (Break Defense): 1d6 3
Elliot Tehm's stress becomes 6
Sandshrew takes one stress
Casanova gives a thumbs up to the sleeping crowd.
The dice wont let things happen
Edit: I thought, get less than 4, add 1d6, get 3 or more, get a second attack, maybe!
"Sandshrew, you may be goddamn invincible, but at least try to get a hit in. Please?"
Sandshrew contemplates, then Rapid Spins.
Rapid Spin! Yeah!: 1d6 4.
2 defense, -1 for being over stress, means Casanova takes 1 more stress, putting his stress to 6.
Sandshrew loses 1 stress.
HELL YES
That damage is 2 because of the -1 for being over stress. Sandshrew's at 2 stress, Elliot is knocked back to 5, and Casanova is sitting pretty as he always does!
"Oh, no! Sandshrew!" Nice Trainer looks slightly unsettled and quite concerned.
She perks up and starts paying attention to the match again.
"Keep trying your best! Rapid Spin, Sandshrew!"
Come on, Rapid Spin!: 1d6 2
Sandshrew goes down to 1 stress.
Payday!
Sandshrew's fighting spirit emerges! It spins like a champion, dropping to 2 stress!
Spin spin spin!: 1d6 5
2 -1 -1 = 1!
With a rousing haymaker spin, Sandshrew finishes this round!
Time to see if Sandshrew can make this a hat trick!

"That sandshrew took out our guitarist and our drummer. It's up to you, Poliwag--Watergun!"
Poliwag avenges his friends with 7 stress to the sandshrew. Elliot, being the ruthless trainer he is, drops another stress down to 3.
She rummages around in her bag for Sandshrew's pokeball, and returns him.
"All right, let's go! ABRA!"
An ABRA appears! Yes, it's an Abra.
"Psychic Shock! Shock that Poliwag!"
Psychic Shock!: 1d6 3
Shoot. Nice Trainer's still at 7 stress, so it deals no stress.
Abra gets shocked.
Abra...: 1d6 6
Abra takes 4 stress, putting it nearly to the stress limit!
"Poliwag! Finish Abra off! Water Gun!"
Water Gun!: 1d6+1 5
Poliwag's water gun deals 3 damage to Abra, finishing it off. It looks like it's coming down to each trainer's last pokemon!
Nice Trainer grimaces as Abra faints and she digs into her purse for the last pokeball.
"Well... I hate to even think about this... but we've got to try, Ponyta!"
Ponyta whinnies nervously, eyeing the water-type on the field.
"THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE! PONYTA, DO YOUR BEST!"
shocking turn of events: 1d6 4
Ponyta is painfully shocked for 2 stress, raising her stress to 2!
...it fails spectacularly.
Nice Trainer finally breaks down.
"We just can't do this, can we?" She looks at Ponyta. "I don't want to see you get hurt any more."
Recalling her pokemon, she slinks defeatedly out of the arena. It's time to find a pokecenter and some ice cream.
Nice Trainer has conceded the match!
indeed
