House Republican Allen West: '78 to 81' Congressional Democrats Are Communists
Never one to shrink from controversy, Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., says he believes scores of his Democratic House colleagues are members of the Communist Party.
At a town hall meeting Tuesday in Palm City, Fla., the Tea Party-backed freshman was asked by a man in the audience: "What percentage of the American legislature do you think are card carrying Marxists or neo-Castro Socialists?"
West responded that he believed "there's about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party that are members of the Communist Party."
When asked to name them, he declined.
I don't think he is a kinda-sorta veep pick./ He is, however, the person Sarah Palin said she thinks Romney should pick.
Hopefully Romneys team is stupid enough to listen to her, but I doubt it.

So, fellow Coastal elites, how much do we hate strong conservative women? Personally, I hate them much.
Now Rosen is apologizing. She better not be kow-towing. She has nothing to fear and she didn't act out of line.
Personally, I hope you don't hate them at all. Disagree with them, sure. Consider their ivory tower misguided nature harmful to the general public, yeah, of course. But actively hate? I don't see the point.

I believe that 89 members of the republican party are fascists, and 23 are papists. As we know 46% of fascists are nazis and nazis count for 1.9 fascists. Papists count for 0.75 fascists and each fascist is worth 1.5 communists. So the republican party contains 214.644 Communist Equivalent Units (CEU)! That's almost triplethe CEU of the democrats!

I don't think I could live like that, to be honest. My mother is a strong conservative woman, and while I feel she is misinformed on some things, and misguided on others, I still love her. I think that's why I try to at least understand where people are coming from with their beliefs and arguments. I can't muster the emotional armor to hate them, I just think that they are wrong and leave my emotions at the ballot box.

For a more serious response, probably about half of my extended family (Aunts, Uncles, cousins) are conservative as well as the only three guys I consider truly meaningful friends. My love for them dwarfs the hate I feel every time they say something that reminds me of their hideous political beliefs. So I just try to avoid all political conversations with them.
I really don't understand how people in this thread can be saying Obama or Romney are really likely to win some specific swing state. Even with current polls I can't imagine that data would be very accurate this far out.

Because the numbers don't swing that extremely. A double digit lead in a so-called "swing state" with a sitting President and a well known challenger means its unlikely that it will change drastically.

I once tried to have a serious conversation with an older cousin about how ridiculous it is to think that the entire intelligence apparatus of the United States was either misled or misinformed about a kid growing up in Hawaii either by his mother or by a cabal of people who have the specific intention of having a Kenyan man become president.
Once you get down to it, there's not much there beyond the talking points. And my cousin is an immigrant from Africa himself. He's not a bad person, he just thinks that the people who have concerns have valid ones and that their "evidence" isn't built with a fraying sting.
The only Republican I know whose opinions I truly respect and will have a political discourse with is one whose beliefs are pretty much, "Screw everyone else but me and my family, I want what is good for them and everyone else can go die. I know that these policies are unfair to others and won't do them any good, they will work for me"
It's the only logic I can accept for the Republican platform, everything else makes no sense.

I have a co-worker like that. His political arguments routinely boil down to the Randian philosophy Roger Ebert paraphrased so well as ""I’m on board; pull up the lifeline." We would go round and round about health care, with him implying that he shouldn't have to pay for other people's bad decisions and me asking him were that the case, would he be willing to stand at the door of the hospital to shoo poor people and their sick kids away? To which he flat out stated yes. And unless you're an inhuman robot incapable of feelings, that is a line of complete bullshit. He also smokes, which only lends a fine sheen of irony to our discussions every time he goes on about people making bad choices that they should have to pay for.
It's that common problem that people who hold libertarian worldviews always think that in their fantasy world, they will be the ones on the top of the human pile.
Back on topic, I don't think he likes a single one of the candidates beyond a moderately positive view of Ron Paul.

I went and tried to look up some numbers from Ohio or Florida in the months leading up to the 2004 election. I only found some numbers for the end of October. Gallup predicted 50% Kerry, 46% Bush. The results ended up being 51% bush 49% Kerry. So Bush out performed his poll by 5% from a poll taken only days before an election. I would guess that someone could lose a low double digit lead 6 months out.
No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
@CatholicLeague: Lesbian Dem Hilary Rosen tells Ann Romney she never worked a day in her life. Unlike Rosen, who had to adopt kids, Ann raised 5 of her own.
I predict that this will be a perfect storm of hyperbole.

I've been looking at polling lately, and went to RCP to see what their projections are looking like so far, and wow.

So Michigan is pretty solidly Democrat, but they somehow have a Republican Governor, Republican Super Majority in the Senate, and a Republican led House of Representatives? This confuses me, is the local Republican Party somehow less obnoxious than the national version? (I'm pretty sure the answer to that one is 'no' because of the crazy things happening in Michigan lately)

The reason they're pretty solidly Democrat is because of the actions of the Republican Executive and Legislative branches. Seriously, they've gone off the deepend, selling whole chunks of the state to corporations.
Nobody, because he doesn't need another Northeasterner geographically, and I can't think of anyone there with significant foreign policy experience, which is where Romney is weakest.
"I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through," Gingrich said, according to Real Clear Politics. "In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we're more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That's just a fact."

Yeah, but pretty much the entire conservative establishment hated Gingrich. They remember him leading the Republican Revolution into the ground, back in the 90s.
The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.

The only reason is because if we don't talk about worthless polls then there is nothing to talk about, because media has devolved into polling people and then polling them to see what they think about the poll results.
I don't like how swiftly people have backed down over this 'Ann Romney has no idea how hard the real world is' thing. The woman is married to a multi millionaire and has never wanted for anything in her entire life. If her kids stressed her out for one second she could send them right off to a nanny, and any chore she didn't want to do someone could do for her. There's a MASSIVE difference between choosing to do something and having to do something. I think vegetable gardening is a great hobby, but I don't think it gives me any real understanding of the plight of peasant farmers in the middle ages. Why? Because I could have someone else take care of it whenever I want to, so even if I spend 8 hours weeding and doing stuff on the weekend and work literally from dawn till dusk it still isn't in the same ballpark.

No, we're solidly Democratic because the major population area (SE Michigan) is Democratic. But for the state legislature, you get a bunch of reps from the rural areas. As for Snyder, Michigan's economy has sucked for a long time and so the previous Governor became pretty unpopular. And Snyder campaigned as a basically a non-partisan business dude yay!
And the Democrats nominated a lame candidate. And the national trend was reflected here.

Thing is, if a Republican had said it about a democrat it would be accepted as true salt-of-the-earth wisdom spoken by someone with good old common sense. Not just because IOKIYAR but because it's common vernacular description for both the lazy bum and the uber-rich inheritor, which she is. Mild hyperbole does not mean a statement is false.

I believe that is the sound-bite, not the quote.
I believe the actual quote, in context, is referring to "the economic issues American women are facing" or some such, clearly implying that she meant work outside the home.
EDIT: So not only is it indicative how stupid our media culture is, it's also indicative of why. At least one major reason.

It's still obnoxious. Just stick to the "she's filthy fucking rich so has no idea how most women have to deal with everyday issues like keeping their children fed and healthy."

And the Catholic league is doubling down going "lol u mad".
They are such horrible little scumbags, aren't they?

(I mean, the obvious answer is Santorum, but that's a disaster in five other ways)

perish the thought, sir!
As always, do not read the comments
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Yeah, but pretty much the entire conservative establishment hated Gingrich. They remember him leading the Republican Revolution into the ground, back in the 90s.
The only reason is because if we don't talk about worthless polls then there is nothing to talk about, because media has devolved into polling people and then polling them to see what they think about the poll results.
that is definitely doubleplus ungood!

The quote is "she never worked a day in her life." Which is an obnoxious thing to say, at the very least.
That it's become a big deal is indicative of how fucking stupid our media culture is.
The thing that they do there, where they show clips of Obama in 2008 condemning what they are doing, that's fucking crazy. The video contains the clips that condemn the video that contains the clips that... *head explodes*
Also, I like the new subject line.
EDIT: @AManFromEarth But of course. Couldn't ninja fast enough...
EDIT: Looking at the timestamps, I think I was a long fucking way from "ninja."
Wrong thread?
It's still obnoxious. Just stick to the "she's filthy fucking rich so has no idea how most women have to deal with everyday issues like keeping their children fed and healthy."
