One of my old students is now on a roller derby team. There are lots of photos on facebook. They are very odd.

It is strange. Also, some leagues are "going straight"

Buying tickets for the Louvre online is an frustrating. There 2 resellers: one for the US and one world-wide but the only options are to pay with credit card and either pick them up in a shop in France or to deliver them with DHL for 25€.

@Mojo_Jojo do you have any experience with buying tickets at a Carrefour or Virgin Mégastore?

That is weird. I have no experience with buying tickets at French Virgin but I used to do it all the time back in Manchester. It was a special desk somewhere in the upper reaches of the building.

It can't be so difficult though. I imagine you'll just need to go to a specific store with your card and they'll hand you the tickets.

Sorry, I'm not very useful here.

Edit: Wait, you're under 26, aren't you. The Louvre should be free for you.

I am. Wait, can you just walk up to one of the side entrances, show your passport and get in? :o

Yep. I did this myself when I was a young 25 year old stallion.

    Edit, Louvre website:
So, it's only the permanent collections that are free. You get a reduced rate for the special exhibitions though (I've a feeling they are also free for under 26's between 6pm and 10pm)

    Ugh, the Yogscast guys.

One of them I can stand. It's the ear-piercing man-screech guy I loathe. My rule for Yogs videos is to stop watching as soon as my ears start to bleed.

For this video I lasted for five seconds.

    P(Hand-1 | Hand-2) > P(Hand-1)
    P(Hand-1 | not-Hand-3) > P(Hand-1)

It follows from Bayes’ Theorem that

    P(Hand-2 | Hand-1) > P(Hand-2)
    P(not-Hand-3 | Hand-1) > P(not-Hand-3); and
    hence P(Hand-3 | Hand-1) < P(Hand-3)

    Fuck this shit.

If you find someone who's equally smart and well-informed as you are, and they disagree with you about something--something where, before discovering the disagreement, you would have said they were just as likely to be right as you--what should you do?

Yeah, it's pretty good, especially for a casual crowd. The only obnoxious thing the the labyrinthine science scoring system (and the fact that the wonders don't seem balanced).

Just beat the Diablo 3 beta.

    Yep. I'm buying this game.

All the fun of Diablo2, none of the bullshit born of twelve year old game design.

    Meh to Diablo 3

But if Blizzard wants to get around to releasing the next installment of Starcraft 2? Like, ever? That would be awesome.

All in good time - considering it was over ten years between starcraft 1 and 2, they could get into a 3-4 year schedule for each release and be considered to be moving at a good pace.

Just to be contrary, Starcraft 1 came out on March 31st, 1998 and Brood War came out November 30th, 1998.

The production value of the stuff they are making today doesn't compare. It takes much longer when working with the kind of hardware and art asset detail to deliver a product.

Blizzard is also being judged MUCH more harshly than they were back then because people expect total perfection from them due to their overwhelming success in the industry. Anything less and their stuff is considered "meh" or "below expectations".

So, since they pull in over a hundred million dollars a month in subscriber fees, and more on top of that in software sales there really isn't any reason for them to release anything until they want to.

Yeah, they went from making one of the most popular games of all time with starcraft, to making one of the other most popular games of all time with Diablo II, to making one of the most dominantly popular and financially successful games of all time with WoW. That's not a streak you want to break by releasing a subpar product.

I think I would actually like Blizzard to be like a super-popular actor and take the time to just release some indie-ish things. Fuck it, you're rich as hell, why not take some risks?

I know they won't, because that's hardly Bobby Kotick's style, but I can dream.

    I figure I could take a bear.
