I tried to read homestuck once a few years ago but the pacing at the beginning is awful and I had just finished problem sleuths so I was in no mood to start that kind longform narrative, especially since it was still ongoing and eventually I'd have to read it as it came out, which I hate
I'll make another attempt when it's done, mostly because the guy who made Problem Sleuths deserves another chance

....I'd still rather find that out myself
I mean if a thing is bad I'd much rather be able to articulate why that is so

Over 1,000,000 words long.
That is not a typo. That is really a one followed by six zeroes. Homestuck has a bigger word count than freaking Ulysses times three, or bigger than one Ulysses combined with either War and Peace, Les Misérables or Atlas Shrugged. It is now 25% longer than Romance of the Three Kingdoms as of the end of Act 6 Intermission 5. In case you didn't get the point around your head by now, it is over twice as long as Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, and over five-fourths the length of the King James Bible (though it is just slightly shorter than the entire canon of Harry Potter). In fact, the only novel that is longer than Homestuck is In Search Of Lost Time (a staggering 1,200,000 words, which is a feat that Andrew Hussie could potentially surpass depending on how long Act 6 Act 6 and Act 7 are).
If nothing else, Homestuck is long - and it isn't even finished.

I have trouble understanding the antipathy toward Homestuck sometimes.
Best I can figure, it seems to come from people's exposure to the fandom.
Since I guess since my only experience with the larger HS fandom is the MSPA thread here and the one time I went to DragonCon I can judge it by its merits instead of its fans.

yeah people talk about the fanbase and how shitty it is and my only exposure to it has been like two people who were unpleasant independent of the fact that they were really into homestuck

Yeah, there totally is.
But you and I both know my opinions on how that plot has been told.

i don't mind individual bits of it
but the entire thing has stretched on and overstayed its welcome many times over by this point

Next Town Over is a comic about inconveniencing a bunch of people to get what you want.

Homestuck is just a story about some dumb kids who play video games.
Riverside Extras is pretty good, and we're nearly halfway through the archives.

So much scarring.
