I got a Tier II flak on a run yesterday and yeah, pretty good would be an understatement of that, too.
The new stuff generally seems broken-ish, case in point being that the new cruiser feels a bit autopilot-ish and I hardly understand how to use it yet.

there should be no unexpected interaction. Since they're just input type=button, they won't do anything if the event handler screws up, same as .Anchor at present. Onclick event should intercept it the same way. This is not graceful failure, since it'll just fail silently if it goes wrong, but at least it is not destructive failure.
I am not sure why it is written as .Anchor with line breaks anyway, but perhaps there was some reason which I am not seeing
e: to be clear, the reason why using #s as destinations doesn't work is because Anchor does not necessarily return the page's exact URL appended with #. In fact, in this case it returns the URL, followed by ?, followed by #. So if the onclick event fails to fire for whatever reason (e.g., if the page onload event never fires because of some element in the page which is taking a particularly long time to load), clicking Preview will load the URL and erase the user's post, instead of doing nothing.
the behaviour of Anchor seems a wee hard to predict, so it is probably best not to use anchors with # or, worse, "http://forums.penny-arcade.com" as their targets with onclick handlers to act as buttons. This also happens to be good accessibility principles
