Prologue- Part 1: Introduction
Have you heard of the "Lion War?"
Everybody living knows this hero's tale... But we also know that what we see with our eyes alone isn't necessarily the truth.
There is no record of him playing an active part in history, but...
The Church claims he was a blasphemer and an anarchist, the root of all evil...
But is this the "truth?"
Won't you join me on a journey for the "truth?"
Prologue- Part 2: Name and BirthdayNo silly names here, sorry. :P This Let's Play is serious business.
June 20th is the day FFT was released in Japan.
Prologue- Part 3: Your Princess is in another Monastery.
Our story begins in Orbonne Monastery. Princess Olvelia has come to this place to pray for the future of Ivalice.
Her guardian, Lady Agrias, a Holy Knight, is eager to leave though.
The current political climate in Ivalice is not conductive to young Princesses going to icolated monasteries to pray.
Ah Sir Gafgarion, a very skilled Dark Knight and Mercenary.
Lady Agrias has little tolerance for men such as him, however.
The Princess wisely resides to end the argument.
Of course things do not go as planned
Ramza Beoulve, the "true hero" of the Lion War.
Outside a few troops had gathered, the forces were not much, a few infantry, archers, and chemists, not a large force by any means.
Lady Agrias has little tolerence for men like Prince Goltana as well.
His soldiers get straight to the point.
In my expert opinion this is a case of "Hitting on the Enemy"
Enter the Dark Knight
With his priorities straight.
And this begins the first battle of the Lion War. A small skirmish in front of a small church.
Of course, to call the battle slightly one-sided...
...is somewhat of an understatement.
Gafgarion and Agrias quite easily tore through Prince Goltana's forces.
With Ramza mopping up whatever managed to avoid their strikes.
None of them even slightly holding back.
Of course, the whole attack was merely a diversion, the real goal had been met.
A young Knight had snuck in the back of the monastery and caputred the Princess.
He was not exactly kind to her.
And with that parting shot the young man left.
Yes, that is correct.
Delita.
The "Hero" of the Lion War.

I did not know that. Awesome
And to make tough on yourself, you should generally try to stay within a 2 level range of story battles.
This makes each and every battle a decisive one, each and every decision a crucial one, each and every fallen comrade.. a tragedy.
Please.
Or awesome stuff like dual pistol wielding chemists with time magic? :P
I never asked for this!
I demand an all Dancer/Bard runthrough. If you can't hack it, well.
Blame yourself or God.
I just hooked my PS1 up with the intent of playing this.
It's kind of like drawing a comic book. If every panel is action, the comic book is going to be fun. If there are action panels but the artist draws every in between where the hero eats some cereal or takes a dump, then it's going to be hard to wade through. You need to strike a balance where there's enough panels to tell a story, but few enough to get on with the action.
I'm going for "crazy builds that I think are neat" If you want to see what I'm going for with my team click the spoiler tag
There will be a Knight/Mediator.
A Chemist/Oracle
A Geomancer/Monk
And the only one that's even remotely "traditional" is the Black Mage/Summoner.
Ebay. :P
@Pata:
Might I recommend a Monk/Thief? Martial Arts gives a boost to thievery, and you can add Attack UP to boost it even more.
I'm totally down with the geomancer, though. Why do they always get the shaft in character balance?
EDIT:
I'm actually in the middle of chapter 4 of a brand new play-through. My rules:
You need to get a Time Mage for teleport (best move up ever!)
Desperate, poor, and bitter, many former soldiers turned to a life of banditry. Eventually they formed a force that called themselves "The Death Corps."
The Death Corps began their work on dismantling the fragile peace that had just barely formed.
It is in this unstable condition that Ramza and Deltia were suddenly appointed as officers in the Gariland Millitary Acadamy. New members of the elite force the Hokuten.
Chapter 1- Part 1: A taste of bloodshed.
Deltia, a friend of Ramza since childhood, was a commoner, one who had been able to enter the Acadamy thanks to some strings Ramza's father was able to pull.
Even now Deltia showed his firm grasp of world events, one that would serve him well later in life.
Ironic considering that the shortage of men is partly the cause of the problem.
The Cadets await their orders.
"As you know, Barbarians are rapidly increasing here in Gallione. The traitorous Death Corps detest the Royal Family. We cannot overlook them. We will begin by exterminating these traitors, by order of our Master. Larg's Knights stationed at Igros Castle and many other groups will participate. Your duty is to support the flank. Specifically you'll go to Igros Castle and help guard it."
Of course, some of these "Barbarians" were outside the very Academy.
"We'll begin preparations now to keep them out of town! Come with me! This is the frontline of operations! That's all! Prepare immediately!"
Desperate people, the only way they know how to survive is by taking the possessions and lives of others. A tragic fate that seems never ending.
"Ok, all we have to do is kill these kids! Then, we can escape!"
"Don't you worry, we'll kill every one of you!"
In a rush to fight Deltia eagerly rushed to deal with the bandits.
Sadly he was a little too eager, and ending up with a nasty wound.
Luckily he learns from his mistakes.
Ramza does not take to being given obvious advice.
"So you must be cadets from the military academy! Snot-nosed little nobles!"
"Buncha spoiled punks like you will never beat us!"
Ramza does not take to being insulted as well.
The fight began in earnest, blood was quickly spilt.
These desperate, petty thieves were the first lives Ramza and Deltia took.
Though they were far from the last.
The battle ends, with Ramza wondering what drove these men to such lengths...
To be continued.
@Pata:
Sweet Fancy Moses! You're enjoying the screen capture button entirely too much!
How are you taking those shots, anyway? Or is that something I'm not supposed to ask about?
WIll you de-equip
Will you cheese the fight with
Planning on stealing the genji equipment? Getting ultima? Doing the sidequest?
I'm going to 100% this game. Do every sidequest.
Yeah this is going to be a screenshot heavy LP, I kinda have to in order to portray things well. But don't worry, later on there will be parts without as many screenshots and stuff, I just have to get the begining out of the way first.
Through the power of SCIENCE I am able to play my copy in such away that I can use a snapshot program to take pictures. :P
sad story. someday ill buy a new cable
Oh yeah it does alright.
Also, I'm thinking of making the images smaller, to help load things faster, do you guys think that's a good idea?
I would put each update in spoilers. It's kind of annoying to open the page to read new posts and having the images shove the page down continuously for a minute.
Please.
More like NSFDSL.
Actually using dial-up here, so you can imagine the pain.
And props for the effort, but with the remake coming out in a month, I'm not entirely sure I should be keeping up with this.
October 9th, make haste. I NEED War of the Lions, maybe even more than Phantom Hourglass.
"It's only a matter of time before the Ordalia army leaves Zeltennia. Don't worry."
"Count Lenario has agreed to your plan."
"...will finally come to an end..."
"Take care of Ramza. He may be your half brother, but he is my own flesh."
"You start at the Academy... in spring, don't you?"
"A Belulve has served the royal family for generations, the warrior spirit is in us."
"Never shame your name... never tolerate injustice."
"Living true to your heart is the warrior's way... the Beoulve way."
"I've asked the dean to accept him into the Academy. It shocked the dean a bit."
Chapter 1- Part 2: Grasping for Knighthood.
A page from the jorunal of Alice Ephral
January 1st, 1454 N.V (New Valendian Calender)
I joined the Acadamy hoping to become a knight. Hours of work, training, and tears all came to a head today.
I, and many other small groups of cadets, were ordered to head to Igros Castle. The Castle was a two day's trip from the Gariland.
I was introduced to the man who would lead our group. Ramza, of the famous Beoluve family. When I spoke to him, he was polite but distant, his eyes had the look of one lost in memory. He wasn't so much looking at us as he was looking at the officers badge he had been given. Since I have been placed under him, I will serve him with my life until I am released.
We left the Acadamy and headed towards Mandalia Plains, a rocky feild filled with large stones. It's a popular place for student to come and relax on a day off. Of course, we were no longer students, but soldiers of the Hokuten.
As we crossed the plains to our great surprise came across members of the Death Corps.
They were surrounding a young man, about our age, wearing armor.
Such disgusting, foolish people. Cowards who attack their own countrymen. My hand twitched, ready to draw my sword.
At Ramza's order we began to save the boy.
Luckily it did not take much.
Distracted by our sudden appearance the Death Corps members didn't focus on their victim, and the boy broke past them and joined our ranks.
I attempted to stand in front of Ramza to protect him, as the leader he did not need to rush headlong into battle as long as their are others below him.
He did not agree with my sentiment and dashed past me to land the first blow.
My attack paled in comparison to his...
One of our chemists... Robert.. or something. Managed to administer a Potion to the boy.
Me and Ramza were right up front, attacking the brutes head on.
I admit they had skill for barbarians...
But they completely lack any sense of honor whatsoever, one of them even going as far as to attack Ramza from behind! My vision burned red with rage at these monsters that called themselves men.
I immediately struck down the one who had done the vile act.
However in my haste I got careless and was nearly knocked out. Were it not for Ramza's commoner companion stopping one in time...
That chemist Robert would not have been able to get the Potion to me in time.
He then killed one of the Death Corps members after the other Chemist was knocked out... he's fast, good support, he'll go places.
All that remained was one. I asked him what he and his companions had been plotting. His only answer was to tell me to go to hell, then attack me one last time.
I sent him there first.
"I think we can help, tell us more."
Ramza, Deltia, and the boy went to talk in private.
"He'll be killed if we don't act fast! I don't know what I'd do if..."
After talking Ramza informed us that the boy would be joining us until we reached Igros Castle. We were all tired though, and decided to camp for the night.
...my first real battle. Defending Ivalice, even on a small scale, from evils such as the Death Corps... it was... thrilling. It makes me feel...
...like a real knight.
To be continued...
Ramza
Squire/Monk
Reaction: Blade Grasp
Support: Two Swords
Movement: Ignore Height
I'm just having a lot of fun with him. He gets two healing abilities (Wish and Chakra), Ultima, the great long-distance Monk attacks, two knight swords (Orlandu's Excalibur shall "disappear" and wind up in Ramza's possession), the awesome Blade Grasp, and Ignore Height just for the hell of it.
Agrias
Holy Knight/White Mage (aka, Paladin)
Reaction: Weapon Guard
Support: Attack Up
Movement: Move- HP Up
Taking a bit of inspiration from that evil Beatrix cerca IX. Since Agrias doesn't have the highest Attack, Attack Up should fix that a bit. It's cool that she can equip Robes, that'll help out her White Magic.
Generic Girl
Geomancer/Samurai
Reaction: MP Switch
Support: Magic Attack Up
Movement: Move MP Up
Can you say, "broken"? It's awesome that both Geomancy and Draw Out use Magic Attack to determine their potency, and yet they don't use any MP nor take time to charge. Ramza's Chakra can keep her alive even more.
Generic Girl #2
Ninja/Thief
Reaction: Speed Save
Support: Concentrate
Movement: Move +2
Quite speedy, she'll probably go at least twice in a round even if Speed Save hasn't activated. Concentrate helps her Stealing, Steal Heart is great since it seems like the majority of baddies are male, auto Two Swords since she's a Ninja, and Throw gets more powerful as her Speed increases.
Generic Guy
Chemist/Knight
Reaction: Auto-Potion
Support: Concentrate/Attack Up/Equip Shield/Equip Armor/Two Sword (no clue, they all sound good)
Movement: Move HP Up/Move Find Item
Ranged Breaking and item throwing are always welcome. Just meant to help the other members by tossing X Potions and Phoenix Downs and breaking some weapons.
I like how all but the Ninja/Thief can heal the party; Ramza has Wish and Chakra, Agrias has her White Magic, Girl #1 has the Draw Out that heals multiple people and discenrs between friend and foe, and the Guy has his Items.
In other news I had played through the part for the update...
Only to have forgotten to turn on the screenshot program.
Good thing I have two saves.
Oh, did you ever get your DS working again, Pata? Your Eevee with Wish is still here in my box, as it has for the past 5 months.
Holy crap I forgot about that.
I did, but my little brothers ruined my pokemon file (used all my TMS, taught all my pokemon useless moves and HMs) and I haven't had the will to restart it yet.
Well, he'll be rotting in the box with the Legendaries if you ever get around to restarting the game. You wouldn't even need to get the National Dex to be able to receive it, I could send it as soon as you can trade.
Er, this is the Tactics topic, right? So, uh... how bout those Jobs? Hear there's 22 of em in the remake.
Sixty -40- on Origin for some ME3 goodness.
http://steamcommunity.com/id/brilliantinsanity/
Does Pata have a job? If so, he should quit it and take FFT screenshots fulltime. I this thread.
New translation, new jobs, a few new story events, two new characters (Balthier from FFXII and Luso from FFTA2)
