I think where you're going to see them not do the straight top four is if this rating holds and there are four sec teams (Or any conference) there at the end.
I mean I don't actually think that final ranking actually happens but like that's the scenario I would think they might deviate. Or even three.
They all still have games to play against each other. By the end of the season there should be some separation there.
Ok let's see if I can do this magic
Alabama wins out, so they're a one loss team.
Ole miss wins out, they're undefeated and they Lose To Georgia in sec championship
Georgia wins out and wins the championship
That miiiight maybe put three in the top four? Maybe?
I could see that. I just don't think we get 3 sec teams in the playoff. Almost certain there will be 2. But unless every other power 5 conferences best team is at 2 losses, no way of 3.
Could see ND there too if they win out. An unbeaten marshall could make it for the weird factor. Or is it just power 5?

I don't know. In that case, Alabama has 2 strikes against them for selection, both the straight up loss to Ole Miss and it being a rematch of a regular season game. Same thing for both Ole Miss and Georgia, I doubt they'd do the SEC conf rematch game.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
The fact that the committee is going to release a poll is mind-boggling to me. What's the poll for? Why not just say "these are the 8-10 teams we are currently really looking at in no particular order"?
I mean, I guess I do know the answer (so TV has something to talk about) but the fact it has to be a top 25 poll is still kind of weird.

After that fuckin snoozefest of a NC game, I think that is a last resort scenario.
And yet, if any of the committee uses "excitement" as a qualifier they should be fired from a cannon and replaced.

The bids for the other four major bowl games will be determined from the committee's top 25 poll. Basically, they need a poll large enough to find the highest ranked mid-major team.

Okay, sure, but I don't see why the poll is needed until before bowls are selected. Doing a poll, even starting in mid-season, introduces all the biases we're familiar with when it comes to polling, or as Jerry Palm put it:
I also asked Long about whether he was concerned that by releasing rankings every week that the committee could fall into a poll mentality, which is that where teams are ranked this week largely depends on where they were last week. He said that he felt their process would not allow that because it starts over from scratch every week.
I'm still skeptical, but the proof will be in the results, which will start coming in a few weeks.
So, while the basketball committee's process has always been a subjective one, guided by objective, if not overly sophisticated data, the football committee's appears to be a subjective process guided by mostly useless and even somewhat deceptive data. And in one important area, there is no credible data at all. It's hard to see how that can end well.

Oh and how some people on the committee will take winning a conference into account but still acknowledge the bastard existence of Notre dame.

Two loss teams from every conference including an FSU loss, you get a team in the SEC championship (let's say ole miss) through a convoluted tiebreaker between Alabama ole miss and miss state, each with a loss to each other.
Then yes.
Welcome to the SEC brand.

A) A Stanford alum who has shown a deep love of athletics, specifically football, especially at a time when Stanford could reasonably be considered terrible (basically, she's not a fair-weather fan). Incredibly knowledgeable with regards to football.
C) A female AND minority voice in a very white male dominated committee.
Honestly, she is one of the best picks on the entire committee. My problem with the committee is more that the stats they'll be allowed to consider are hilariously outdated and won't provide a clear picture, and that at the end of the day we'll get something similar to the Coaches Poll. The committee really should have consisted of a rotating panel of some of the best college football writers and analysts currently around, who have the time to watch all the games and usually lack the regional biases that can be found on the current committee.
So like... Chris Fowler and Spencer Hall?
I'd throw in guys like Bruce Feldman, Andy Staples, Chris Brown, Bill Connelly, Matt Hinton. Guys who are basically constantly analyzing the sport with both their eyes and with stats to the point where they can make very educated guesses at the best teams based on sample sizes.
The picks this week are sorta a random smattering of teams. Not a whole lot of giant games, but some interesting games never the less. You'll notice a certain game that belongs in ATS rather than W/L. It is my policy that the most serious of rivalries are never ATS. Sorry.

Redshirt sophomore receiver Jhajuan Seales and true freshman cornerback Juwan Offray were arrested on complaints of public intoxication after allegedly being found asleep in a car in the drive-thru lane of a local Whataburger at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to a story on the Tulsa World's website.
According to the police report attained by the Tulsa World, Seales was allegedly asleep at the wheel with his foot on the brake while Offray was in the passenger seat when Stillwater, Oklahoma, police arrived.
The police report indicated that Seales and Offray "seemed very lethargic and confused" after they were awakened and one officer reported a "strong odor associated with an alcoholic beverage coming from the car."
Offray was also cited for hampering an officer after reportedly giving a false name initially before admitting his real name at the Stillwater jail following his arrest.
Seales, a starter, is the Cowboys' fifth-leading receiver with 13 receptions for 236 yards and three touchdowns this season. Offray is a backup cornerback who has recorded three tackles in 2014.

To me, it feels like the defense has been buying to their own brand a little too much and giving up big plays. I think we'll probably shut Michigan's offense down for the most part, but then they'll get a few big plays that risk momentum.
Plus, Cook's form has been sloppy at times, so a big play by Michigan followed up by a three and out because Cook's throwing off his back foot and who knows.
