Not a bad week at all. Alienation is the big get for PS4 this week, but the demo for Nioh might be pretty good as well. I don't really know anything about the game still but a demo is rare these days. Severed and Stranger of Sword City are good pickups for Vita if you're picking up what they put down, with the former probably edging out the latter in general.

The real deal is that sale this week, though. There's quite a few good buys in that. I should know - I bought just about every game in the Vita portion already so the sale is entirely useless to me. You're welcome.

Worth mentioning is that Yakuza 5 for $24 is a damn good deal, though, for the amount of content in that damn game. And the quality of it. If you like Yakuza games, that is.

So Alienation is good? I do like me a good twin stick shooter, and the screenshots looked decent. But it seemed like it was just going to be one of those games that pop up on PSN that I've never heard of and are shit.

The Nioh demo is pretty great. It's also hard as hell. And make sure to try out Game Mode, which makes for a better frame rate at the cost of a worse resolution.

Housemarque games are almost always good.

@chamberlain, would you say Alienation is a spiritual successor to Dead Nation? Cause that's what it struck me as once I saw the name but it also wouldn't surprise me if Housemarque went in a very different direction as well.

Very much so. It has the same kind of destructible environments and waves of enemies coming from all directions, only prettier. I have only tried the tank so far but the three classes seem very different from one another.

I really like being able to re-roll stats on weapons. Pick up a rare weapon with mediocre damage? Take a chance and spend some scrap on a re-roll. It could get better.

Thanks chamberlain, I'll probably pick it up when I have the time to play it.

    Anyway, May's PS+ lineup:
    Tropico 5 (PS4)
Table Top Racing: World Tour (PS4)
    Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 (PS3)
    LocoRoco Cocoreccho! (PS3)
Switch Galaxy Ultra (PS Vita, PS4)
God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP, PS Vita)

So the rumour was bullshit but I'm pretty happy with that, I've wanted to check out Tropico 5 for a while but it always seemed too expensive.

That said, they've really dropped the ball with their Vita offerings recently.

That's nice the rumor was wrong, but still not a great line up. Tropico should be good at least.

It's Sim City, but in Cuba. You get to play as notFidel Castro. It's a humorous take on Sim City, and it has challenges that go along with the "Dictator Caribbean State" theme (like putting down coups, building a tourist trap, etc.).

Maybe this is just a bold new strategy. I kinda stopped buying PSN games because I was frustrated that they would end up free* on PS+ a few months later. Clearly they're mostly offering shit now to break people out of that habit. I've been buying PSN games again, so it clearly worked.

    lol it wouldn't surprise me.

I pretty much only buy games that I know for certain I'll want to keep if my PS+ ever expires or if they are part of a flash sale and are super cheap.

I haven't been overly let down by PS+ though, as it has given me the chance to try many indie games that I honestly would never have tried otherwise. Some great games like Valiant Hearts I would never have bought myself, but I ended up loving.

I feel like the service was at it's best when it was all just PS3 games (in addition to the fact that the PS3 already had a huge backlog of big but cheap games). Perhaps over time, as they phase the Vita and PS3 out of the service, it should free up more funds for better PS4 games.

You just made Cities Skylines sad. But it's on PC, not PS4, so...

Still a really good City game!

I'm down with some Tropico. Somehow I've never tried one, despite always hearing how great they are. How does it play with a controller? I can't imagine a Sim-like without KBAM...

I played one of the Tropicos, 3 or 4 cant remember, on the 360 and it controlled just fine. Didn't feel cumbersome or anything. 5 will probably be the same way.

Maybe this is just a bold new strategy. I kinda stopped buying PSN games because I was frustrated that they would end up free* on PS+ a few months later. Clearly they're mostly offering shit now to break people out of that habit. I've been buying PSN games again, so it clearly worked.

Table Top Racing isn't out yet, so it might be great, and Tropico 5 is a great game. If you aren't into those genres, then ok, but to say they are offering shit is just a dumb thing to say.

People have really odd expectations for these free games (and yes they are free, because you are paying to play games online now, just like you had to for Xbox live for the past 10 years). I mean two months in a row we are getting brand new games for free, which is pretty great if you ask me.

They're not free. They're part of the service you're paying for which happens to include online play. You're also paying for cloud storage. Just because it's not the main attraction for you doesn't mean it's free.

But if you are paying for the subscription for the monthly games, you know going in that you don't know what the games will be each month, so complaining about what the games are is dumb any way you look at it.

Totally agree - complaining that your blind box didn't result in diamonds and gold is super dumb.

Nobody gives a hoot about the "it's not really free" technicality argument.

As for Plus, I remember early on when I jumped on, my reactions were always "Wow! They're giving away that?! That's awesome!".

Lately though? I don't think I've touched even half of the offerings in just the past 6 months. If I'm lucky there's maybe only 1 offering a month that even elicits a response. This month it's...

    uh...

Well I liked the Locoroco games on the PSP I guess?

I just keep finding myself being old and out of time. I'm a PS+ subscriber and I like the service, I think Tropico 5 looks cool, but I know I won't play it. I'm still working on AC: Syndicate, Ratchet & Clank, and Enter the Gungeon, and then in 2 weeks Uncharted 4 is out. I'll never sit down and think "now's the time for some Tropico 5!"

I said mostly shit. Just because you can pick one or two games out every month that are pretty good, doesn't invalidate what I said.

I do think it invalidates it, because if you get one game a month (or even every other month) that you get some enjoyment out of it's still a pretty good deal. I guess your expectations are just much higher than mine, which is fine, but the endless "PS+ is crap" in this thread at this time every month is getting tiresome.
