College Football 2016: Week 11 picks, pg99

Today is the first of August, which means that it's now officially okay to start looking forward to the 2016 college football season.

Warning: the picture sizes are going to be wack, but hey, it's not like anyone sees this post after the next 39 posts anyway.

Here's some barely informed guesses about who might be good this year:
usa-today-9222914.0.jpg
THE FIGHTIN' HARBAUGHS!

usa-today-9253974.0.jpg
JT BARRETT!

GARYPATTERSON250_1109PW2.JPG
GARY PATTERSON, whom despite his reputation I couldn't really find a sweay photo of

usa-today-8977406.0.jpg
CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY will probably have a lot more photos taken of dudes running behind him this season

usa-today-9239946.0.jpg
EIGHT-BALL THE TIGER!!!!!!!!!

usa-today-9254261.0.jpg
Man if Alabama figures out that quarterbacks are allowed to run with the ball in addition to occasionally throwing it, we're boned.

So as I said in last year's thread, college football is probably America's most unique and absurd sport. I'm very serious about college football, but to me, part of that means embracing the inherent absurdity of it, and at least there is a lighter side. (Seriously, is there anything funny about the NFL?) So keep that in mind as you post in the thread.

Also in that vein, the first game of the season will be a game between Hawaii and Cal at... Sydney, Australia on August 26th (our time).
NRL_Grand_Final_2006.JPG
A picture of its rugby configuration is proably the closest to what it'll look like in a few weeks.

There will be one other game played abroad this season: Georgia Tech vs. Boston College in an early ACC tilt in Dublin, Ireland.
Aviva_Stadium%2C_American_football_pitch_dimensions.jpg
I guess they really like the triple option over there?

I'll run the pick 'em again this year. Details will be posted soon and will probably replace this very text!

Hype is somewhat out of control in Ann Arbor as a couple thousand people showed up to celebrate Michigan's switch back to Nike at midnight last night at the M Den. Harbaugh was there said he hopes it's what it looks like when Michigan wins a championship, basketball team was there, Rashan Gary was there, etc. It was ridiculous, even for the Harbaugh hype machine.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.

I have a strong love-hate for that damn tiger.

I've not been paying attention at all during the off season besides a few stories like Lattimore not being allowed to be on the staff (BOO), Spurrier taking an honorary position with Florida (boo?), and everybody saying we have a good QB (hahaha never trusting you again).

So, uh, go Cocks. Cue that sweet Sandstorm, Hoss.

I'm just glad that it looks like UCF has gotten their shit together with all new staff pretty much across the board.

I love college football but I hate that I root for teams that have zero chance of winning the championship before the season even begins.

I'll probably be back writing the previews for Pick'ems again this year.

Also I might have gotten a side job writing for a big UCLA sports blog, which should be interesting.

Are we doing a pick-em this year?

Yes. ASP and myself are doing a similar setup as last year.

This year's pick-ems will also feature 500% more Michigan hype than last year.

UCF plays Michigan second game of the year.

In related news, life is full of suffering.

I doubt things are gonna be anywhere near as bad for us as they were last year, but if Frost can pull off the upset...

Well, I thought about building him a statute, but football statues are uniformly terrible.

    I'm not laughing

I remember when Akron was a play away from doing that

I mean, unlike Hoke Harbaugh is actually competent so it shouldn't happen

    But who knows

He tends to mercilessly destroy lesser competition.

And we have a lot of it this year! The schedule is terrible. And in a hard core SEC move, Michigan leaves the state once before mid-November. (to Rutgers)

Okay, I know UCF went winless last season and there is no reason to suspect they will perform a miraculous turnaround this year, but for the sake of my sanity, can we pretend UCF is not terrible competition for the Harbaugh Murder Express 2016?

You can't get this nervous about a game that hasn't started yet. You gotta go zen. Like this:

    Yes, you should come.

I will be the one in the UCLA gear getting hilariously drunk because it will be the only way to deal with facing our former OC.

Meanwhile I just spent the past few hours writing two different articles, one covering UCLA's practices today and the other covering our star linebacker recruit going AWOL for the past few days, only to finally return to the team tonight.

This seems like a good time to ask:

Was everyone cool with the Google forms thing from last year? Would you prefer to have something that's just done entirely in the forums like we did in previous years?

I liked the Google forms thing, but I don't think I'd participated in the previous "on the forums" ones so I don't have much of a comparison to go on.
