It's too late Ell we are middle aged now. Would you be a dear and grab my cane so we can go to bingo?
I went to the pub with some friends in a weeknight a week or two ago. Somehow we managed to choose a pub that had a bingo night. So yes, we basically wEnt out for hot mid week bingo action
Homogeneous distribution of your varieties of amuse-gueule

head of the persian club at her old university is a monster...rules that shit with an iron fist....she definitely has some stories to share
i've only seen him once, their club was in the nyc nowruz parade and he was walking in front of them instructing them by just yelling angrily, it was pretty wonderful
I'm at Mehregan!
@mRahmani your baby iroonis are so cute ;-; there are little Persian girls at this thing dressed up in floofy princess dresses and it's like a direct hack into my ovaries
Re: the Ayatollah of the RU Persian Club: he's actually not the president this year but he still took it upon himself to deliver an aggravatingly long self-serving simpering speech that made me want to green revolution
Iranians are like cats, we really don't take direction well.
Short of troops to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan a decade ago, the California National Guard enticed thousands of soldiers with bonuses of $15,000 or more to reenlist and go to war.
Now the Pentagon is demanding the money back.
Nearly 10,000 soldiers, many of whom served multiple combat tours, have been ordered to repay large enlistment bonuses — and slapped with interest charges, wage garnishments and tax liens if they refuse — after audits revealed widespread overpayments by the California Guard at the height of the wars last decade.
Investigations have determined that lack of oversight allowed for widespread fraud and mismanagement by California Guard officials under pressure to meet enlistment targets.
But soldiers say the military is reneging on 10-year-old agreements and imposing severe financial hardship on veterans whose only mistake was to accept bonuses offered when the Pentagon needed to fill the ranks.
holy shit this makes me furious.
I'm reminded of the Emperor Galba when trying to recover the excesses of Nero. It didn't go well for him.

and we will never, ever, be able to visit anything outside of a bubble 0.00000000001% of it
Not with that attitude anyway
Also, that is how we perceive it. What if we are perceiving it wrong?
What if there's a teapot around Neptune?
Well, considering that we just went from thinking there were 2 billion to 2 trillion galaxies in our observable universe, the idea that we might not have a full picture of things yet is actually incredibly likely.
Sure but that's not at all the same as "what if we are perceiving it wrong?"
we can certainly get better measurements of the hubble constant - it's pretty "ish" right now - but that doesn't mean we're likely to find that it's wrong
going from 2 billion to 2 trillion is less of a jump than going from 2 billion to thinking that actually, galaxies don't exist after all
Well, it's not as much of a stretch that we might find out something like "hey wormholes are actually pretty common and/or exploitable", etc.
No, but then again, it is much more likely that we won't
I saw some Susskind lecture that Riemann linked in the science thread. And essentially covered that the bridge in theoretical wormholes grows at the speed of light. So it seems like wormhole travel by recent physicist ideas is essentially done for right now. You could theoretically reach the half way point through a wormhole but never further.
I'm gonna leave off the video card and cpu cooler until I can mount the rest and measure a bit, it's been tricky to find out what would work in clear space around the vents and stuff like that.

I've started taking time to look at apartment furnishings.
It'll be a few months before I'm able to move out, as I've got a lot of money to get distributed to varying companies. I figure I can buy a few things here and there and store them here so it's not a clusterfuck on move-in day.
Has anyone had any experience with the wire cube shelving? It's most likely that my apartment will be ~500-600 sq ft, and I'd like to give the place an open, airy feeling by not having huge bulky classic furnishings (except for my overstuffed love seat!).
It's weird, I don't know if I like it. I don't think I'll do it again.

Also a drawback with that case seems to be that the PSU will block the VRAM fan on any 2-fan video card. So basically all reviews have suggested using a reference card with the single fan in the back. But then I found that weird ass hybrid with a closed loop for the VRAM, never seen something like that before.

I dunno, all I ever did since building my current was get more RAM on one occasion. I don't think I'd do much modding at all, maybe put in more storage at some point.
Actually I changed the stock heatsink too. That was mainly scary because it felt like mounting a kilogram onto the side of graham cracker.

You can't give someone a pirate ship in one game, and then take it back in the next game. It's rude.
Alternate dimensions are never good, that's what Fringe taught me. And everything is Walter's fault.

Kinda pricey there. SSDs are getting pretty affordable though.

If they actually had Poppy say weird stuff like that it would be great. They really need to play up the "she might not be human" angle.
