I've decided as far as fiction goes, I like short stories a lot more than novels. I can't remember the last novel I really loved. Old School, I suppose. Man -- surely there was one before that? I don't know.
I just finished This Film Is Not Yet Rated.
I am both skeptical and enjoy documentaries that cast light on shadowy subjects.
How legit was that documentary?
I can't fucking believe that the ( I guess documentaries should have spoilers right? )
board of appeals was all mother fucking cinema owners

That documentary was entirely legit. The MPAA is silly. It didn't really do much besides point out the fact that they're stuffy as hell about sex while being pretty nonchalant about violence, a pretty old criticism of backwards American ideals. The fact that the MPAA board is shrouded in secrecy and thus incapable of receiving criticism on this point is pretty worthwhile, but realistically I don't see things changing. And considering that people are still free to make whatever movie they want as long as they submit it for a rating, I don't really see who I should be mad at in the whole scenario.

I'm not really mad at anyone. I just love getting new information about things I was previously unaware of.
Yeah, we are pretty darn Puritanical.
Anyways, good night chat.
I'm going to go violently murder my neighbors in a fit of passionate anger while repressing my desire to love.
I kid.
No really, omniscient internet recorder, that was a joke.
I just remember seeing somewhere that you're allowed to show penises in movies and still be only R, as long as they aren't erect. Seemed like a humorous rule.
I wish there were more dongs in movies.
I am tired of girls being nekkid.
I WANT MEN
Shit, I need to sleep.
Also, could this post be less creepy?
Possibly.
The lack of clear guidelines for the ratings also seems problematic.
But you can still make any movie you want, and anyone is free to view it (minus pornography). The only regulation is in the form of the movie theaters insuring that patrons are the appropriate age for the movie. You can still rent and see them pretty much whenever you want.
The MPAA is silly, but it's better than a lot of the alternatives. The puritanical thing is horseshit, but that's why it would be nice if they were a little more transparent and could respond to feedback.

Howabout if I quote it while assuring you that I have my hand on my penis right now?

The film This Film is Not Rated Yet has some pretty hilarious examples of weird double standards by the MPAA. It is what it is, people can still make whatever movies they want.

Most studios will refuse to market an NC-17 movie, and the large theater chains will refuse to run it. If you get an NC-17 rating you're automatically relegated to arthouse status.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
He doesn't (didn't...he died last year ) have a gimmick, really. It's hard for me to say because he's hands down my fave author of all time. Nobody writes heroic fantasy like he did.

Which is a form of commercial regulation of content, not governmental. Whether or not the rating system was in place, studios would still shy away from films that would garner an NC-17 rating, because they just wouldn't be as lucrative.
If you want to make smut, you can still make tons of money on video and DVD. There is no censorship (minus the outer dredges of porn). Yeah, the ratings are confusing, but it's the best system available.

Stephen King has some surprisingly good short stories.

And why don't you have a santa hat yet? I mean, Satan? Santa? It's obvious!
Granted, the main reason I have a hat isn't because of holiday charm. It's because I thought evil pacman would look good in one.
And I was right! :^:
Dude she had tears in her eyes.
Yet you all ignore me.
And bye, actually. I'm gonna spend my day on a training course.
Man, we are dicks.
Anyway -- short fiction > fiction.

Especially fantasy. Oh what have the fanbois done to you my love.
Do you just want a santa hat on your av?
I can hook you up if so.
You ever read any Gemmell?
You should.

I haven't actually been able to spend any time with fantasy for pleasure for ages.
I've been focusing on research.
Which is how I ended up reading Lovecraft and Game of Thrones.
What the hell, people.
What's Gemmell's gimick?
Howabout if I quote it while assuring you that I have my hand on my penis right now?
Hello [chat].
You want dong, eh? EH?
not Bart Simpson dong
That was gross and borderline illegal

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

I thought you could draw naked children to your heart's content. It's not like that was pornographic anyway.
I need to find a few good "just trying to get by" fantasy authors that aren't comedic.

Oh Irene, you know we'll save some penis for you.
It was awful and gibberish.
I still got an A.
Yay for proper MLA formatting.
